Perhaps Matthews is really as competent as some seem to think and she loses just because she's on the ballot against a popular local person. It's poetic justice considering all the stooges and morons that have become city councilors, mayors, state representatives and state senators just because there's a "D" next to their name.

I don't believe the local GOP is capable of educating the voters for the following reasons.
1) They aren't aware of what the Republican Party generally stands for in the first place.
2) They aren't intellectually capable of relating/conveying to people that supporting Republicans is more in those people's best interest than is supporting the Democrat Party.
3) They don't care if Republicans win as long as they stay in control of the local party.
4) They are incompetent of doing anything but turning decent, normal, smart people (the key word here is smart) away from the Bristol GOP.
5) The local GOP leaders generally only support those who will do what they're told. But unfortunately these "leaders" are generally clueless in regards to policy and election strategy.
-The fact that they have two decent candidates (Mills and Cockayne) this year is an anomaly.
As an addendum to my last post, Derrick C. sounds like a pretty smart kid as well. I would vote for him (in addition to Mills and Cockayne in their respective districts).
Ken Cockayne has done nothing for the West End except pick up trash with his son for a couple hours in the Spring and he made sure the Bristol Press! The only person who tried to make a difference on the council in the last 20yrs.was ELLEN ZOPPO!Ken did not even earn his pay!

Adios Kate. You're all done.

That would be a shame!

Not really. But she's certainly better than having Parker on the council, and definately a step up from Craig Minor.

I do not think she is inept, actually she is quite capable.
What is a shame is that many voters will think that they cannot vote up and down, and in voting for Mills, they cannot vote for Kate.
Voters have to be better educated in this area.

Good riddance.
Yes if you saw the debate, as a "well educated" lawyer she used the non-word incentivise 4 times. I can't spell it because it's not a word.

Some people still think that you can vote for ONE person in that column, old machine or new ballot.
It is an education of voters that is needed

-Right, but then the Democrats would generally lose.

You cansee that, why can't the Republicans?
That is one way for the Republicans to gain ground.

You did fine until the last comment.
Are you aware of what Cockayne is relly up to, or has he snowed you too?
They have more than 2 "decent" candidates, which is 2 more than the Democrats have provided nonetheless.

I don't care/know (and I doubt I'd give much attention to) what you think Cockayne's "up to".
He's 10 times better than McCauley, Marko, Sassy-Zoppo, Couture, Chet Reed or any of the other Democrat stooges that have ever emerged

And how do you determine that?
What has he done?
Why isn't he questioning what is being done?, And not being done?
Why isn't he questioning the budget, expenditures etc?
