Denski challenging Hamzy

Democrat Jacqui Denski of Plymouth is taking on the tough task of challenging state Rep. Bill Hamzy, a Plymouth Republican, in the 78th District. Hamzy's held the seat since 1994, when he defeated Democrat Ellen Zoppo, and typically hasn't even had a challenger.
Here's what Denski told Democrats last night:

When I was first asked to be the Democratic Candidate for the 78th District I admit, I was a little skeptical. I scheduled meetings with many of my colleagues, some that are in this room today, to get their opinions and feedback. What I was told, in a variety of different and colorful ways was that winning this election would be a Major Challenge. I am standing here today willing to accept that challenge.
Let me give you my brief history:
I am originally from
New Jersey ,
I have been employed by the United States Army at Joyce Kilmer,
In the fast food Industry,
As a dental assistant,
In the child care industry,
Banking Industry
And, the Insurance Industry
I’m a Former Girl Scout Le ader
Past Vice President of
Pymouth Center School PTA
Past President of the
Plymouth PTA Council
Former Wamogo FFA Alumni Secretary and Vice President
Iworked extremely hard on the new Terryville high school referendum committee
I was co-anchor to our local cable channel 16 television show, “It’s All Good” which highlighted all the positive places, history and events of Pequabuck, Terryville and Plymouth
Currently:
I am a happy and proud wife and Mother
Husband: Brian for over 15 years
Daughter: Jennifer 17, will be a senior in High School next year
Son: Jon 14, will be a freshman in High School next year
Daughter: Brianna 4, will be entering Kindergarten next year
We are very active Members of Asbury United Methodist Church.
We have lived in Terryville for over 18 years.
I am a licensed Realtor in the State of Connecticut ,
Apprentice Black Belt in Tang Soo Do Karate at Excel Martial Arts
And, District 1 Councilwoman in the town of
Plymouth
Being the liaison to the Park and Recreation Commission, Board of Education and the Library Board
I work very hard in every aspect of my life! This will carry through this campaign and continue into Hartford when I represent the 78 th District in the House of Representatives.
It Is Time…
It has been too long since the Democratic Party has had a candidate in the 78 th District.
It Is Time…
It has been too many years that my opponent has gone unopposed!
It Is Time…
Everyone deserves an equal opportunity to receive the best health care regardless of race, religion, sex or income level!
It Is Time…
The Real Estate market is flooding with homes going into Foreclosure. Utility Costs are rising, Fuel prices are sky rocketing on a daily basis and the minimum wage stays the same.
It Is Time…
There are assistance programs for low income households, but what about the Middle Class?
It Is Time…
Our Nursing Homes are under financed and under staffed. This is the possible future for all of us. How do we want to live when it is our turn?
It Is Time…
The Board of Education is more than half of the town’s budget. Tax payers can’t afford more taxes, the town’s are struggling to operate on the limited budget and the Board of Education still must cut teachers and programs. Who is suffering? Our Children – Our Future!
To Quote Hillary Clinton in her August 27, 1996 speech, “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child”:
“One Thing we know for sure is that change is certain. Progress is not. Progress depends on the choices we make today”.
Thank you for making me your choice
IT IS TIME…!!!

Sounds like a breath of fresh air. She'll bring lots of life experience and common sense to the job.

It isn't courage that is bringing her forward, it's being naive. The Dems in Bristol convinced her that she has a chance when really they are using her as a sacrificial lamb that will end up ruining her reputation in Plymouth. I like that she's on our town council but she has no chance at beating Bill at the State level. Too many of us in Plymouth like Bill, including democrats like me. We have no reason to get rid of him.

What pray tell has he done in ten years?

What's Dense-ski talking about? Even if you're a tax-payer funded socialized medicine proponent, what evidense is there that our current system discriminates based on race or gender? Is she saying blacks and women generally don't have jobs or do they not make good life decisions?

Actually the system discriminates based on the whether or not you work in the public sector or not. The public sector has gold plated bennies that would bankrupt any private firm.

Sounds like a New York area liberal with no clue as to what the constituents in the distict believe in, need or want.

Bill:
You must beat this person. And I have very little doubt that you won't.

This woman is precisely why I could never be a Democrat.

Take it to her Bill!

I agree and as I recall the Dems have been the majority in Hartford for quite some time and these issues have come to fruition under their watch, but they do nothing and just keep on raising taxes. We need a more balanced assembly between parties as right now it is a one party system. The minority party can make noise, but just gets ignored in the end. Replace Bill would just add to the problem in my opinion. Has there ever been a tax decrease in CT?

It's DINO's ("democrat in name only") like you who keep the Republicans in power. Why not be honest and switch parties?

She looks like a deer caught in the head lights :)

Odin:

I wish you could understand how clue-less you are. But you're right about the DINOs. They aren't selected as delegates to your conventions and you nominate losers like Ned Lamont.

The left which now controls the Dumb-o-crat Party is going to elevate Barak "the appeaser of terrorism" Obama as it's nominee. You will then lose all your DINO voters (the ones who supported Hillary in PA, WV, TX OH, IN, and KY to the Republican nominee Mccain. Keep up the good work.

This lady is probably a decent person, but she's obviously cooky as well.

Hamzy wins easily.

Apparently you'd like to have all opposition to the extreme left-wing of the party to leave .

Well buddy .... we ain't leaving . We plan on staying and fixing the mess you radicals have made of our once beloved and respected party .

Just because we aren't radical extremists and aren't willing to accept the communist teachings of the current party leadership , does NOT make us D.I.N.O.S.

We WILL regain control of our Party and kick your butts to the curb/gutter , where you belong .

Republicans in Power?

Where, in Bristol? In Hartford?

The Democrat party has ruled both chambers in Hartford for decades. Same in Bristol.

What exactly are the Republicans in charge of?

I don't know where 7:14 has been over the last 14 years but Bill has done much more than just the latest bill that was passed.

All you have to do is go to the state website and search for his name. You will get more hits than you could ever read before the election.

This chic is going to get beaten so bad it will be embarassing. Too bad she has fallen for the Bristol Dems that have convinced her that she has a chance.

Nothing like throwing someone in front of a bus. Consider her political career over because once Bill beats her she will have no credible reputation left which means that she won't even be able to win her own town council seat back.

It sounds to me that all the Democrats who are backing Hamzy are just spinless twits or they are jealous because they never got the chance to face him.

For everyone who is backing Hamzy I have one question what has he done for you? He has proposed one bill in 14 years I could do more in 6 months.

I am backing Jackie all the way

OK Jacquie - I mean "annonymous". Whatever you say.

You should do your research. If you really believe that Bill has proposed 1 bill in 14 years, your in for a really big reality check.

If Ellen Zoppo couldn't beat Bill Hamzy, this person sure doesn't have a chance.

Go Hamzy! Go Hamzy!

Bill will win this with his eyes closed and no campaigning at all. This woman is wasting her time and energy on something she knows she will lose anyway.

What's the point in running if you know you are going to lose?

May 23, 2008 8:04 PM:

Clearly in the leadership position he's in, Hamzy is an accomplished State Representative.

But thank you very much for sharing that information.

Knowing the type of guy Bill Hamzy is, I have no doubt that he does alot in the Legislature for the people in his district and for all of Connecticut.

Hamzy has only proposed one bill in 14 years and anyone who says differntly you should know that signing a bill or attaching your name to it means you just want credit for someone elses work!

O yeah and im not Jackie

If this is true then what does "Sponsored" and "Co-Sponsored" mean? I thought that "sponsored" meant that they were the author or proposer of a bill?

And I can't help but wonder how you can be so sure of yourself that he has proposed only one bill in 14 years, unless you have been keeping track of everything he did at the State over the last 14 years.

Which I highly doubt.

With Burns out, the democrats can concentrate on Hamzy.

Even if it was true that Billy has only propesed one bill in the past 14 years then so what? What we need is less government interference in our lives and more rights restored. Let's start with the elimination of the BS Assault Weapons Ban and finish when we no longer have to press one for english and two for spanish.
