Still no decision by Burns

First-term Republican state Rep. Ron Burns still has his campaign on hold.
Despite Wednesday’s scheduled 77th District convention to choose a candidate, Burns, who represents northeastern Bristol, asked for more time before deciding whether to seek a second term.
The Republicans obliged by giving him until Tuesday to make a choice – but that might be the final deadline for Burns.
The city GOP chairman, Tom Barnes, Jr, said the party will have a candidate that night, whether it’s Burns or someone else.
He said he hopes to learn by Friday whether Burns, a former city councilor, will run or not.
The Democrats are counting on Chris Wright, the son of a former state senator, to recapture the district from the Republicans in the November general election.
There’s been talk at the state Capitol that Burns – who was the only Republican to unseat a Democratic state legislator anywhere in New England two years ago – is not going to try again to beat the odds.
Burns said recently that he planned to make a decision soon. He’s apparently waiting on word about a possible new job, a number of insiders said.
Burns defeated longtime state Rep. Roger Michele with the backing of many Democrats who were unhappy with Michele’s complaints about alleged police racism.
Burns, who is second in command at the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, won a City Council seat in 2003 that he voluntarily gave up in 2005.
He ran against Michele in 2006.
The rescheduled Republican 77th District convention is slated for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 27 at Nuchies restaurant in Forestville.

Update on Thursday, 10:40 p.m.
The rescheduled 77th District convention has been rescheduled again. It will now be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday in the GOP headquarters in Carpenter's office building at 225 N. Main St., which I think is somewhere near the Social Security office.

You're either in or out. Make up your f___ing mind!

A little more detail as to why there is such indecision might bode well for his re-election if he choses to run.

This sounds bad as far as his interest in the state rep. postion.

The Courant reported that he is waiting to hear from some jobs he applied for that could prevent him from serving another year. Some in the Boys club and some outside the club.

Give the guy a break - a new employer might have an issue with the time spent at the legislatore. Its not like any of the Bristol legislators produce so its not exactly a big loss.

If Mocabee was here we'd have a decision I bet.

Anonymous said...

Right, because like him or not Mocabee is experienced in the real world unlike Barne$$$$$$$.

Burns, you're not that great nor are you that important. The GOP has no chance what so ever of taking the State House. Make up your mind and give us an answer now or get out!

Putting up Wright was liking handing the seat to the GOP anyways. For that matter who ever the GOP put up will win that seat! Have you ever heard that Wright guy speak! My lord! If thats all you DEMS can come up with I would rather have Roger back in there!

Can you define "real" World?

If Ron doesn't run it's a free ride for Chris Wright, and a big problem for the rest of us.

Yes, Mocabee is a self-supportive investment salesman. Like him or not he (at least) has made a decent living for himself. Give the guy the credit he deserves.

Can Chris Wright be worse than Michele?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Barnes will start a petition to get Burns on the ballot!

Anonymous said...

Nice to think you are important.

Anonymous said...

Chris Wright can be just as bad as Michele was but in a different way. Chris listens to the last person he spoke with and forgets everything before that. He can't make a decision on his own and he bails at the slightest bit of pressure.

Not the guy you want voting at 3:30 in the morning on a really important bill.

It is clear that Ron does not have that "Fire in his belly".

Anonymous said...

Obviously!

But I do. TJ where are you?

LOL!

just kidding

And what is the Republican party supposed to do when Burnsie says NO on Tuesday?

Do they have anyone lined up?

Where is Ken Johnson when we need him???

Anonymous said...

Who needs Ken Johnson???

Anonymous said...

Who is Ken Johnson?

Anonymous said...

Ken Johnson did well in the mayor's race because he's a likeable, successful person. He may have made a fine mayor, but he should have served on the council first.

I don't believe he lives in the
77th district does he?

He ran for Council, got whupped and disappeared.

Frankly, I don't think he has a clue as to how the city operates.

Has he ever resolved his contract with the city?

I don't know. I think he's still got the GOP TC by the balls. Ooops did I say that?

Actually the queer does not Johnson.

Anonymous said...

Does not what????

Maybe Ron Burns just is sick of working a full time job and this part time job as well?

Ron's a good guy, cut him some slack. If this Wright is so wrong (and a goof ball) than the GOP will most likely find someone else who can win.

...does,(comma) not Johnson.

Maybe that is the problem with the RTC

TA DA

Today is the day we have all been waiting for!

One of the problems, definately a serious problem.

The solution is simple, make "boy-adolph" irrelevant, get some new people in there who want to take the control from him. No body wants to. Plus the registrar and others have his back.

These are the people that weighed heavily in the last election process and probably cost us the mayors seat and maybe one other council seat.

But, THEY are happy because they are in control (of nothing).

Anonymous said...

That closed clique beats off the many good people that just want to do the job.

They are why it is difficult to get good people to run or rerun.

Gee, Burns is waiting for a new job offer. Wouldn't it be interesting if he got himself a STATE JOB!!!!! Just another politician taking care of himself. Lets just wait and see.
