Council unlikely to back chief operating officer

I still haven't heard from city Councilor Cliff Block directly, but I'm told by those who are counting votes that only two city councilors - Ken Cockayne and Craig Minor - support the chief operating officer recommendation made by the Charter Revision Commission.
One of those who oppose the idea, Mayor Art Ward, is willing to put the idea on the November ballot for the public to decide.
But the other four councilors - Frank Nicastro, Block, Kevin McCauley and Mike Rimcoski - apparently don't want to see the suggestion go any farther.
That would set up a 4-3 vote against allowing the public to vote on the chief operating officer concept, assuming the vote counters have it right.
If that's how it plays out this month, Cockayne has already vowed to try to get a referendum to create the position. He said he'll try to get Minor to join the effort, too.

This is what should be happening...The council should be voting on weather the tax payers should be voting on a COO in Novmember - not weather we should have one. Let the tax payers decide. Anything the Charter revision brings to the council should automatically go on the ballot for a vote. Good-Bye DEMS! LOL! The start of a new beginning in Bristol!

Why not a Town Manager????

Suggettion:

Have YARDE donate 6.5 million of his money so that he and cockayne can have their COO.

Better yet, let Yarde be the COO and see how long the town lasts!

But if the weather is bad and turnout is low, you won't know whether or not the people really want it.

Another $250,000, or more, for what?

Why add to our costs when we are trying to cut?

That amount would fund the need for new police vehicles each and every year!

I've stated this before.I have some real reservations in relation to the lack of accountability of this proposed position to the taxpayers/voters.This aspect has not been given the deliberation it demands. This is too important, too radical a change not to consider all ramifications it could bring.
The qualifications recommended by the Commission aren't nearly enough. The candidates for this position should possess the HIGHEST qualifications possible.
Lastly, this issue is too important to be left to seven individuals.Every citizen of this city should have a say in the matter.

McCauley will vote not to let the public vote on this. Don't forget, he's in the union pocket! He a Councilman for the Union! He will protect them. If he was really for the people he would let the people vote on it. He's worried because he knows if the public votes on this it will pass!

I'm sure he will come up with some excuse as to why he will vote no! But we all know the real reason!!

McCauley will vote no b/c Ken C is kicking his but in his own district!

Ken is pushing the issues, while McCauley backpedals and protects his union brothers.

Hey Kevin, are we really too dumb to make a smart decision on this? Are you really protecting us or the unions?

Your ethics are in question again!

Who is the person that is putting flyers in the stores and businesses around town claiming that a COO will lower our taxes?

Very bad form that someone would adverise such blatently wrong information.

McCauley is lost on the council with out Ellen. Now he just takes his orders directly from the Union! It's a good thing he's smarter than the voting public. That way he can protect us all from voting on issues that pertain to us all!

Be careful of what you pray for: sometimes your prayers get answered.

Has Cockayne started his referendum effort yet?

What will that cost us?

I'm in favor of the COO. Its a great idea. Thanks for fighting for the taxpayers Ken. Its great to have someone on our side looking out for us. You have my vote. Great job.

Is the Republican Party going to blackball Rimcoski too?

You republicans will take anything COO/CEO because you can't win it so try another way. (Laughable)Do the Union haters see anything that is done ? Or is everything in you Union haters eyes that its all the Unions fault. ie:everything.
