Council 4 Union Endorses Ward

Press release issued a few minutes ago:

Bristol – Mayoral candidate Art Ward has been endorsed by Council 4, a union with more than 800 members who reside in Bristol. The endorsement was announced Aug. 24 following the union’s delegate meeting.

“The residents of Bristol want a change for the better, and our members feel Art is uniquely suited to bring about that change” said Mayra Sampson, payroll and benefits manager for the city and president of Local 233 of Council 4, which represents approximately 140 city workers. “Over the years he has demonstrated a powerful commitment to improving public services and strengthening our quality of life in Bristol.”

With 35,000 members statewide, Council 4 is Connecticut’s largest union.

Council 4 seeks to ensure decent pay, benefits and employment security for its members; it also has fought for strengthened public services and sufficient state and local budgets; and comprehensive health care reform that would provide quality coverage at lower cost.

“I am humbled and energized by this endorsement,” said Ward, who works as a Veteran Services Officer for the state Department of Veteran Affairs in Rocky Hill. “I share Council 4’s vision of quality healthcare and equitable pay, and believe the hardworking residents of this city deserve accountability and fairness when dealing with city government. I look forward to working with them to make Bristol better for all of us.”

Ward is also a member of Local 269 of Council 4, which represents state employees at the Department of Labor, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Workers’ Compensation Commission.

“Art Ward is a fellow union member who relates to the challenges we face as workers and as taxpayers,” said Chad Lockhart, president of Local 2267 of Council 4, representing approximately 250 Board of Education employees. “Art is a candidate our membership can enthusiastically support because of his commitment to our schools and our kids.”

800 votes LESS for Ellen!

Mayra does not speak for everyone, not even close.

No, but Mayra was appropriately speaking on behalf of a large union representation that voted to support Art. This says alot for how the City workers feel about Art versus Ellen.

City workers, more so at city hall, do not like Ellen!!
This endorsment is great.

the union leadership made the endorsement, not the union members. big difference.

but I can see why city workers would prefer Art to Ellen. With Art they won't have to work as hard or be accountable.

That is a line of bull! So what you are saying is Supervisors and Managers are not doing their jobs now?
At least Ward won't insult them or call them the Fab5 of Fat5 in front of their employees. Ellen is all about retaliation, far cry from Ward.

Mayra Berios (Ward's campaign manager!) and the other Ward cronies inside Council 4 conspired to deny Zoppo even a fair shot at the endorsement. It would have probably gone to Ward anyway since by Council 4 standards his labor creds are better than hers (namely whether he is a union member, period), but they were so worried about a fair fight they stacked the selection committee with Ward-heelers, and tried to keep her from even knowing about the meeting by making sure the notice of the endorsement meeting got mysteriously "lost". Art Ward is scared ****less of being in the same room as Ellen, talking issues.

Not true - Ellen knew about it, she even tried to lie about being the one to implement the auto. trash barrels - oh ask her about that one. She lied and got caught, not a trustworthy canidate if you ask me.

So now its a conspired event? Sure and the temp in Hell this morning was 98.

It's all a conspiracy. The sign thieves have also intercepted Ellen's notification of the endorsement.

Maybe we should check the grassy knoll.

Et tu Mayra? (Ellen 2007)

This endorsement ensures I WILL NOT vote for-Ward.

Endorsement proves to me I WILL BE VOTING FOR WARD.

how mindless of you to vote based on a union endorsement.

I'm curious...other than the prize money that comes with the Council 4 endorsement, and maybe a handful of volunteers to stuff envelopes and make phone calls, does this endorsement matter? Is any undecided Democrat influenced by it?

It was just ANOTHER reason to seal my vote. How "mindless" of you to think this was the only reason.

Obviously you are a Zoppo supporter
which explains your small thinking values.

Now please try and have a nice day.

how mindless of you to decide not to, based upon a union endorsement

I'm serious with my question about voter influence. I admit I have already made my decision so the endorsement doesn't matter to me personally, but I'm curious. Are there any undecideds out there reading this who feel the Council 4 endorsement is an important factor, for them?

no matter what was said about the endorsement, there will always be someone against it

"I'm curious...with the DTC endorsement, and maybe a handful of volunteers to stuff envelopes and make phone calls, does this endorsement matter? Is any undecided Democrat influenced by it?"

Since you asked about the union endorsement, thought it would only be right to ask the same of the DTC endorsement of Ellen.

UNLESS THE ENDORSEMENT WERE FOR ZOPPO, SHE WOULD AUTOMATICALLY DEEM IT WORTHLESS

maybe Steve Collins should look at the entire union process and see what the endorsement votes and discussion were at the Local 233 City Hall level, and then at the Local 233 Executive Board level - oh, that's right, we the employees of Local 233 had no input and only read about this in the newspaper. Our "leaders" made the decision for us. Not all employees at City Hall dislike Ellen. Maybe they can be called the "silent majority," and the Myra does not reprensent us.

"Since you asked about the union endorsement, thought it would only be right to ask the same of the DTC endorsement of Ellen."

Actually it is not "only right" to ask your question, since it is a completely different question. Start your own thread. This one is about the Council 4 endorsement.

Which Ellen did not get the endorsement, which means she will find something negative to say about it!

or another way to try and make ward look bad, like taking her signs down, what a farce

like ward or not, gotta say one thing about him, he is working his butt off with all of his signs, door to door walking, fundraisers and advertising - should give her one heck of a run for the money
