Democratic mayoral nominee Ellen Zoppo sent along this response to GOP mayoral candidate Ken Johnson's call for more planning before the new Route 72 extension is built:
The city adopted a Land Use and Transportation Plan for the Route 72 corridor in 2005. The City Planner suggested that the city do the plan so that we would not be behind the eight ball when the construction started. The study looked at existing land use as well as existing and projected traffic patterns, held public hearings to get feedback from the community as to what they wanted for the future of the area, and came up with a list of land use and traffic management recommendations to guide city officials during and after the project.
It's frustrating to hear candidates criticize projects to make political points when in fact the city was right out in front of this particular issue. The study is on the website and I know that a lot of people in the affected area and esp. Forestville center were really happy with the entire process.

Great answer Ellen! Your vast knowledge of what's going on in the City is just one reason you will have my vote in September and November!
thanks dad
She was not the only one who knew about this study, hello. She was referring to Johnson not knowing about it.
There was also a study by Fitzgerald & Holliday Inc
in March 2004 as well. Before the 2005 study Ellen is talkging about. Guess you didn't remember this Ellen? But hey, just goes to prove you are not the only one with knowledge on this project.
Fitgerald and HALLIDAY was the consultant Bristol hired to help with the corridor study. This "study" you're referring to was part of that. Suggestion: don't be a smart ass unless you know what you're talking about.
The study done by Fitzgerald & Halliday is the very same study that Ms. Zoppo is referring to. It was started in early 2004 and, upon completion, was adopted by the Planning Commission in April, 2005.
Ellen is not the only one involved with 72 but at least she'll go out there and point out how much has been done, by many people, to make 72 happen. Oh and calling for a stop to a project that's been on the city's agenda since 1949 doesn't do much to show a commitment to progress for Bristol.
Two studies were done, You are missing the mark people along with Ellen.
No one said anything about stopping progress on 72!
To WHom ity May Concern:
Is there a study as to how neighborhoods will be affected on Federal Hill? It seems that when a faster through-way to Hartford, etc. is completed, there will be more traffic "cutting through" the Federal Hill area in order to bypass Rt. 6 and King Street.
I believe there may be an even greater volume of traffic through that area (Oakland to Woodland).
Ask Ellen she lives there and claims to have all the answers.
Good luck!

I don't wish to be argumentative, but this statement is simply not true; there was only one city-sponsored Route 72 planning study done. Perhaps the person who insists that there were two studies could identify for us exactly what this second study is that he/she is referring to.
