Charter revision session on Thursday

City councilors will take up proposed city changes next week that could include longer terms for elected officials.

The recommended changes from the Charter Revision Commission are slated for discussion at a 5:30 p.m. council meeting Thursday at City Hall.

If councilors back the commission’s report, its recommendations will wind up on the Nov. 2 general election ballot. Voters will get the final say on whether to change the city government’s blueprint.
There are two significant overhauls to the charter included in the charter commission’s report: increasing the terms of office for elected officials to four years instead of two and adding a requirement that mayors ensure performance evaluations are carried out for many top municipal officials.
A few minor revisions are also on the agenda.  Click here for more.

The Charter Revision Commission, the Council, and the CITIZENS OF BRISTOL should take note of what just happened in Hartford when you give politicians too much free rein and reduce their accountability.
Bristol has done well with a two year term for Mayor and Council: lets keep it that way!

let us the taxpayers vote on weather we want a 2 or 4 year term. i would vote for a 2 year term ,2 years of dying under the bs is enough for anyone.

The 9:58 a.m. comment was pretty dumb. A corrupt elected official will go directly to jail, regardless of whether he's serving a two year term or a four year term. Are we in for a couple months of debate at this level of critical thinking?

Has Perez gone directly to jail?

How long has he continued to serve since charges were made?

But he main point, which you missed, is that the longer an oficial serves, the better they can hide things; the less time they are scrutinized the more that they can get away with.
All of it isn't necessarily illegal, but regular and frequent elections are our best protection!.

We have already had 4 years of Ward as a mayor and look where we are. He served 14 years on the City Council BEFORE he was mayor. One would think he would have been able to convert his tenure on the council to a more productive and inteligent mayorship.

Career politicians are dangerous, they have too many enemys and become too stagnant. When you are green you are lean, when you are ripe you rot. Most politicians become ripe after 8 years.

Ward was against 4 year terms when Stortz brought it up. Now that Ward is Mayor he is for it? Gee Ward - is that because you want to be paid by the taxpayers for doing nothing?
Just like your job with the State - you sucked at it, they complained about you, but couldn't get rid of you so you ran for Mayor. Now the city of Bristol is paying big time for you lack of leadership & foresight. You were lazy state worker and now a lazy city worker and we have to foot the bill? ENOUGH - you need to go come this NOV!! Just remember, what you did will come back to bite you in the A$@ COME Nov!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lotta things that Ward didn't like, or critized others for are being overlooked now.

Hope many others see that too!

5:22 pm: Nope, we don't see it. Situations change. Different scenarios call for different solutions. Looks like the mayor is doing a great job.

Ward ran saying certain things: now he has changed his tune!

6:01: Maybe a new tune is a good thing? Nothing wrong with changing your mind.

Most voters in Bristol are too stupid or fall for Ward's lies. Maybe one day they will wake up and discover Ward only wants votes - he will tell you what you want to hear, then change it once he is in office.

Look at his record and discover for yourself. Ward is a phoney, even to his own family. Someday (soon) they will discover the dirt bag he is. I do hope his wife takes him to the cleaners too.

A man os only as good as his word!

Ward shifts with the wind and takes the easy way out.

Too bad Bruce Suchinski wasn't there to help them get it right!

Right Kate?

9:41 PM: You continuously make these nasty, derogatory, baseless comments about the mayor. If you have any proof to substantiate your alanderous allegations, please step forward and present it. If you don't, then please stop acting like the true cowardly "dirtbag" that you are and go away. Thanks!
