City councilors unanimously backed the appointment of Teresa Babon as the city's new tax collector.
Babon, deputy tax collector in Southington, will start work at City Hall on May 11.
Mayor Art Ward said Babon holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Connecticut and has been a certified tax collector since 2003.
Ward said the city had 42 applications for the job, five of whom were interviewed in the final cut.
Babon succeeds Mildred Parks, who retired in December after a long career in the office.
I promised Babon I'd give her a few weeks to get acclimated before doing a longer story about her. So somebody make sure I remember in June, before the tax bills go out.

ROTFLMFAO !!!!!! Stephen actually thinks he'll still be here ......
This should make Mayor Kloko happy!
The city hired another out of towner.
Thanks Mayor Ward. For nothing!
Guess the Bristol applicates weren't good enough to get the job?
Bill P.
Mayor wants out of towners over Bristol residents, why? Residents of Bristol can't do the job?
Actually, if some of you bristol residents were in the mix, I'd cast a vote for outsiders, at least they would know what they were doing.

She's been the Deputy Tax Collector in Southington for the past five years, she has a BA in Economics from UConn, she's been a certified Municipal Tax Collector since 2003, she's a member of the Connecticut Tax Collectors Association and the Hartford County Tax Collectors Association. Yeah, she's no more qualified than any other Bristolite. How DARE the Mayor hire this out-of-towner!!

And how about the person that has been working for us for some time, and has been the Acting Tax Collector for many months?
Klock has been bragging as to the great job she has been doing,
Ward does not want Bristol taxpayers getting the jobs in Bristol. We will pay out of towners but they don't pay taxes in this town. Out of towners don't have an investment in their city. Ward talks out of both sides of his mouth so which side do we listen to?
3:14
While I'm sure Ward would probably have preferred to give the job to someone from town, obviously the person with the best resume got it. Sounds like Ward's speaking straight forward. Maybe it's just difficult for you to listen with your head jammed so far up your colon?
we aren't talking rank and file jobs here, we are talking about the most competent professionals to oversee your tax dollars stupid.
4:09 - it's obvious your head is so far up yours or Ward's to see the truth. Good old Mayor Ward doesn't want Bristol residents to fill city jobs - if Ward had any b@%*'s he would admit it. But he hides behind his self-righteous bull. Discrimation comes to mind on this one.

And doing the job for 5-6 months doesn't mean anything?
OOPS, forgot that she didn't have Mayor Kloko pulling fur her
billy, if you are talking about ward not hiring you - it's not discrimination, it's avoiding the hiring of an ass and I commend him for that.
Sorry you didn't get the job Billy. Better luck next time.
8:45pm - I didn't put in for the position - I was just stating facts. Its obvious I hit a nerve with you - Mayor.

Bill, if Bristol 'APPLICANTS' can't spell.....why should they get the job...
"And doing the job for 5-6 months doesn't mean anything?"
Correct. Next question?
7:58 - thank goodness that someone is looking out for the betterment of the city - you didn't apply so you weren't considered - the city of bristol thanks you again and agai and aga and ag and a........
There is a real problem here that everyone seems to be missing - if the Mayor is purposely not hiring Bristol residents, and only considering outsiders then this is a concern. Not only is it wrong. but I do believe unlawful.
8:27 - so put up or shut up and show up at city hall or a city council meeting to find out - oops, you won't do either because your two-faced puss will be exposed, you'll be found out to be an uninformed idiot with a personal agenda that holds no merit, direction or validity.
mommy would be proud of her little dweeb if she only knew - wish that someone would get the courage to name their kid "anonymous" so you jerks would be exposed and have to go back into hiding in your shells.
1:02
Then why aren't they fired, if they aren't doing the job?
10:39pm - Gee Mayor posting this late at night, why not use your real name - dweeb.
7:37, Tsk, tsk, tsk...more assumptions and false accusations??? (And so mad dog's campaign continues...what a schlep!)
Thank God this woman didn't live in Bristol. If she did her application would have been passed over, right Wardie Boy?
F.N. (Oh Ward knows who I am)
Isnt' there a hiring committee? Mayor doesn't pick the applicates - or does he?
Steve - maybe you can set the record straight - who hires the Mayor or the hiring committee? Who picks the hiring commitee for the city?
Babs R.
Ward does - he picks the people on the hiring board (his buddies) tells them what he wants, then Ward makes the final desicion. Shouldn't be that way at all - Take the Mayor out of the mix and who picks the hiring committee. Should be personal, but then again Diane is so far up Wards butt too.
Mayor should not be the on the hiring board, makes it all to easy to hire his "friends."
Seems to me letting the Mayor pick the hiring board, and he has the final say is like the Fox watching the hen house. Maybe this should be changed?

Wow... sounds like there a lot of bitter people, huh? Don't you people have better thing sto do than blog about someone you do not even know anything about? Come on people, get over it and grow up!
Wow, sounds like a bunch of bitter people, huh? gossiping about someone they do not even know anything about...come on people grow up, and give a fair chance, change is always good.
I don't think its gossip - if its true, then the process should change.
Tim
The mayor relied heavily on Kloko, and this gives Kloko even more power.
