Wright to help host Armenian Genocide Commemoration

REPRESENTATIVES GERAGOSIAN AND WRIGHT AND STATE’S ARMENIAN COMMUNITY TO HOST ARMENIAN GENOCIDE COMMEMORATION
New Britain native to be keynote speaker
 
State Rep. John C. Geragosian (D-New Britain), State Rep. Christopher Wright (D-Bristol), and members of Connecticut’s Armenian community will honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide during a commemoration ceremony Saturday at the Connecticut State Capitol. The ceremony, which will begin at 11:00 a.m. will be held in the Hall of the House of Representatives and will commemorate the 94th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.  
 
This year’s keynote speaker at the commemoration ceremony is Matthew Karanian, an attorney and native of New Britain, Connecticut.  Karanian served as Associate Dean of the law program at the American University of Armenia in Yerevan and as Director of the university's legal research center.  Karanian also has been an analyst for Georgetown University's Institute for the Study of International Migration in Washington, DC.
                                                            
During the Genocide, over one-and-a-half million Armenians were killed by the Turkish government between the years of 1915 and 1923.  Five hundred thousand others were driven from their homes into exile.
