McCauley is running again

Democratic city Councilor Kevin McCauley has written to leading party members that he plans to announce his reelection bid at Monday's town committee meeting.
When I asked him about it, he laughingly said they weren't supposed to tell me. But they did.
Also expected to announce on Monday is Terry Parker, a 3rd District Democrat.
There may be others.

OH BOY ANOTHER UNION BOY IN THE MIX. AT LEAST THE FIRE DEPT IS HAPPY. HE WILL HAVE THE TAX PAYERS ON THEIR KNEES SOON.

McCauley does/has done nothing since being on the council expect keep his seat warm.

Keep working for the Unions McCauley, your doing a great job!

I must admit this doesn't thrill me, but I imagine we can have worse.

If McCauley is such a tool of the fire union, why has their contract been bogged down in arbitration for three years? Besides, McCauley abstains from voting on fire department personnel issues.

Kevin who!!

Kevin is a nice boy.Eventually he will catch on.

wonder said...

contract has only been in arbitration for a bit over a year and councilmembers don't negotiate.

Kevin has done a great and honest job for the city. He is not a union boy. He happens to be a firefighter which means he HAS to be in the union. He didn't decide to be in a union and then become a firefighter. He does not negotiate union contracts and, as one writer already posted, abstains from votes that directly involve the fire department.

He has done quite a bit, poster 8:05 a.m. Apparently unless you're in the Press every day you're thought of as not doing anything. He obviously does not feel the need to run to the Press to attempt to get accolades. He is a behind the scenes type of councilman who has done a lot for the city especially with regard to code enforcement.

People really need to find out who this guy is before they speak poorly of him. He knows his stuff and works well with the rest of the council. Too bad there are those out there who would try to discredit him to advance their own agendas.

Being fair, McCauley a union member, sides with the unions all the time. I would expect nothing else and one can't blame him.

I would grade his job performance as fair, not great.

Clearly the Democrat leaders twisted his arm (he was reluctant to run again) to run hoping that the popular McCauley will line up against Cockayne on the ballot, increasing their (the local Democrat Party AKA the city union party)chances of beating Cockayne. But these people should be careful what they wish for, it might come back to bite them.

Re-Elect Ken Cockayne

Kevin has fought hard behind the scenes to keep a policeman assigned to code enforcement to keep pressure on slumlords, and he fought had to prevent Ward and Mize from gutting the public works department budget. He gets very little credit for this because it doesn't make the papers, but it makes a difference for the lives of Bristol residents. He should run for mayor - he knows how to be a team player and work with people.

You know what Kevin has done just like the rest of the democrats on that council? Each one of them has voted to increase your taxes! So why would you vote someone back in that keeps raising your taxes! Whats even sadder is that with the new assessments which out more money into the city's hand that had the nerve to raise taxes! Keep that in mind people that are about to lose your jobs or have already lost your job.

Anonymous said...

YA hes has raised out taxes! Thats what he has done! He is a follower not a leader!

Anonymous said...

Zoppo still has at least one voice on the Council.

Anonymous said...

Terry Parker is the concern. Not only is he a partisan hack, he has the intelligence level of a slug.

Anonymous said...

WHY?

Anonymous said...

Show me a politician who DOESN'T raise taxes and I'll show you a politician that only cares about getting re-elected. A real man (or woman) does what needs to be done, and that includes raising taxes when needed. They pay taxes too, you know. They wouldn't raise them if they didn't think it was necessary.

The real story here is not kevin Mccauley, but the fact that the democratic leadership is so desperate for candidates that there are a variety of really bad names floating out there. Terry Parker is a nice gentleman, but not Council material. And, at this point, it looks like a bunch of their candidates will be city or state employees. That will not help the ticket.

Kevin Mccauley is a good councilman and is very responsive to people's issues and concerns. I wholeheartedly support him - we need more people like him on the council and less of the type who hold their finger up to the wind.

I like Kevin and am glad he is running. At least the Second district has one voice of reason.....

Anonymous said...

I will vote for Kevin every day before allowing some of these other stooge names of people who the mayor prefers and will then be able to control.....

I have no problems with my taxes being raised, when it is called for. The non-chalant manner in which money has been dumped into this town over that past 10 years brings me to this question. If it is ok to raise taxes when council deems needed, what do we do in a situation that is now when nobody had the foresight to look ahead and say "Hey, these good times ain't going to last forever." Our mill rate went down 10 points because of the reval, the city still ends up with 2 million dollars more in the war chest and we are being told that due to the economy and inability to think long term, we are going to need even more money. Raid from the rainy day fund, continue to hope that taxpayer money just falls from the sky in the form of repackaged grant money from other sections of the country. If everyone else is doing it why shouldn't we? Government must live within its means just as you and I do. We have become so addicted to programs, this town doesn't know when to say "enough is enough." Personally with the fiasco go on right now with the unions and the mayor (like there will ever be layoffs). No big business would consider coming here on the Center Mall site until the West End is cleaned up. No business will consider coming here if there is no easy in/out to the highway. No business will consider coming here because this town shuts down at 6P.M. and people don't feel secure walking the streets. No business will come to the center mall site because of the economy. They had the chance on more than one ocassion and the 2 organizations fought each other on what the thought was best for downtown Bristol. Now, we have a farmers market and a carnival twice a year. The chance came and the council (both dems and repubs) failed) and they failed miserable.
But hey we have a beautiful park across the street that has to be constantly supervised by police so nobody gets raped and nobody's basketball gets deflated by a hypodermic. These people have had thier chance and while some good things have happened, I am not keen about the future.

--That statement is false. Raising taxes is the result of overspending. Show me a politician who doesn't agree to increased spending, and I'll show you a politician who is more interested in what is right than he/she is in getting re-elected.

Rrevenues from taxes increase automatically when property values increase. Sales tax revenues increase as well as a result of inflation. Income and corporate tax revenues increase when the economy is doing well. The precentage taken in taxes increase when government spends more. If one believes in more social-welfare programs then they believe in more taxes.

Raising taxes is not the result of overspending, it's the result of prices going up. That's like saying the person who works a second job does so because the family is overspending.

Gamache:

Neither you nor Terry Parker convey competency or intellect in regards to the Dremocrat Party.

Just a little advice.

Concerned Constructive Conservative said...

Odin;

Come on! Government budgets go up every year because of wasteful overspending. If you do not know that, you've been "drinking the cool-aide".

In my last post I described how revenues increase automatically. What don't you understand about a growing economy and increased tax revenues? The cost of government should decrease when the economy slows not the opposite!

Ths cost of government increases when it spends more. According to your argument when will the increase in taxes end? Perhaps when all our income goes directly into government?

Odin said...

Concerned Conservative:

You keep saying, "the cost of government". Is that all it is to you, a "cost"? I think Oscar Wilde was talking about you when he said "a cynic is a man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing."

So here's the logic of Conservatism I don't understand:

If the economy grows - cut taxes and government spending.

If the economy slows - cut taxes and government spending.

I guess I should no longer wonder if the current situation our country is in has completely discredited your ideology.

It appears to have already been discredited.

A democratic system will involve the people having power and using it to meet the needs of themselves and their community. This can be in the form of schools, police, or health care. There is nothing about your freedom being lost when you insure it to someone else.

And I think about it, there is nothing wrong with increasing government spending in economic times as bad as these.

As the only institution with any type of solvency available it is the government that can spark demand (which is the problem in this economy) to foster a recovery.

The Market isn't a rational actor here and won't solve the problem.

Why do so many,(Gamache, Nelligan, Ragaini, etc...) kiss the butt of Ward? Do they really know him? If they did - they would be kicking his butt rather then kissing it.
