McCauley defends Zoppo

City Councilor Kevin McCauley sent this statement recently about the "script" controversy:

First off, I don't think "script" was the best word to describe the process of gathering and organizing a mountain of information which contained concerns, questions, desires and input from all the council members. Ellen’s ability to effectively compile all that in an orderly outline so we would all have our particular areas of concern brought onto the record highlights her leadership (Mayoral) qualities.
This particular outline even addressed Art Ward’s issues. Even after Art had made his position quite clear early on that he wanted no part of his Democratic colleagues working with the other party and went his own way, we respected his viewpoint just as we always have, and January’s meeting was no exception. Art Ward’s comment about having no knowledge of this form of government is disingenuous, as he has participated in similar outlines in the past. For him to infer this happens all the time does a disservice to the public trust because he is well aware of it’s inaccuracy.

Forget the whole "script" definition..... Why aren't Zoppo, Minor and McCauley addressing the "leak" and "be discrete" statements? Their desire for secrecy is more of a concern to me than their need for a script or detailed outline to follow. They seem to be conveniently avoiding that part of the issue.

So let me ask you this Mr. McCauley, If the "Scripts" contain even Art Ward's remarks, then why was it so important not to let Art see the script by Mike?
Did you write these remarks or did Ellen script this for you too?
I suppose your answer/response will be to hand me your business card and say "call me!" No thanks!
Your credibility, and the rest who went along with the "game plan" is shot.

One down and three to go! Where is Minor and Nicastro's remarks to defend the Den Mother?
Maybe the mail is slow and they didn't get the scripts yet?

WOW- SURPRISE, SURPRISE, SURPRISE! WHO WOULD HAVE EVER THOUGHT THAT ONE OF ELLEN'S PERPETRATORS, MCCAULEY, WOULD STAND UP AND DEFEND HER "SCRIPTING" ACTIONS - WOW!

Hey Steve, is this what you call "high journalistic standards?
I saw Ellen today at the Pig Roast and asked her about the two issues being blogged to death here - discrete coment and the mirror comment - and she had two very interesting answers. i am glad I asked her. Maybe the people on this blog should e-mail her or call her. She said a few people had done so. And for God sakes it wasn't a SCRIPT!!!!

The comments on this blog are opinions -- and not necessarily ones I agree with. The only pieces here that must uphold journalistic standards are mine.
As for comments, they'll go online unless they are potentially libelous, hateful or malicious to a degree that seems unsettling. I've already killed quite a few comments that I think crossed that line.

One more thing... I didn't call it a "script." Zoppo did that in her email to the mayor back on Jan. 4th. That's how the word came to be used here.
The whole thing is posted on the blog for anyone to read. People can make of it what they will.

Why should we have to chase Ellen down to get an answer regarding her need for secrecy and discretion with the use of the scripts? Why didn't she address it in her article defending the use of the script? Why doesn't she write a letter to the editor, request an article or post the answer here on line? If she has 2 interesting answers why isn't she making them known?

Now her reasons for be secretive have to remain a secret? I don't like the way this is going.

Why don't you like the way that this "scipting" topic is going? It is proceeding along the typical "Ellen's path" - secretly.

Why should she? Judging from the tiny number of comments, the only people who can't accept her explanation are the congenital Ellen-haters. She's got better things to do (I hope!) than waste time her energy talking to you people.

Don't know if it is better or not but a new council meeting is scheduled for tomorrow night, maybe she is hard at work scripting the format for it.

RESPONSE:

"You people" are the voting population in this town. "You people" are also the countless number of people that view this site that may not be posting anything - silent voting observers. "You people" are 30,000 voters that talk to their neighbors, other parents and listen to conversations in restaurants and stores. "You people" don't appreciate it when the people they voted into office are purposely being secretive and choose to ignore the issue of secrecy when asked about it.

"You People" are a stronger number than "You". Maybe she should be wasting her time and energy with "you people".

Quite evident that zoppo wasn't held in very high esteem, based upon the tone of public commemts at last night's city council meeting
