State budget treats Bristol kindly

To the relief of city leaders, the new state budget will ship the expected aid for schools, roads and and busing to Bristol.

“That’s fairly good news,” said city Comptroller Glenn Klocko.

The city even got a boost in the assistance for local projects. The city’s getting $671,000 for projects compared to $504,000 last year -- money that could pay for many of the police cruisers the city put on hold.

The major aid program is the Education Cost Sharing grant, which is holding steady at $42.9 million, as anticipated in the city’s budget.

Do the unions get their raises and concessions back? If we are in the black, we absolutely should!

With such an incredibly idiodic statement as that, you wonder why the public perception of unions is what it is?
IF that were the case (that we were in the black) which we aren't, why can't an equal argument be made in favor of the taxpayer who has been the scapegoat of this administration receiving back some of their property taxes on SEVERLY overinflated tax evaluations.....

How about sending me my tax payments back?

This is probably why Nicastro supports this bill. Bristol's Democrat "caucus" gets it's payback. Our taxes will be going up, Connecticut companies will be looking to other states in the case of relocations and downsizing, and our kids will be saddled with debt but at least our streets will get fixed, our schools will stay open and our cops will get paid. It's better than anarchy!

oh lord help us - Ward will now spend, spend, spend. His union buddies will be looking for the return of raises and concessions. Look ahead Mayor - its not a signed check for you!!!!

Rell needs to seriously grow up. She sounded like a 5 yr old kid that didn't get her way when she was on TV today. How immature, one sided, selfish and divided can one get?? Using words like "They" and "their budget"...obviously referring to the Dems. Sore loser if you ask me! WTF happened to working together and meeting half way? Isn't that what our President demanded we all start doing?...compromise. Rell has now shown her mean, evil and spiteful side and thus will never get my vote again. I'm sure many others feel the same way. She should hide her face in shame.
Oh, And about those lawmakers playing PC games while they were in session...its just wrong. They should all have given their undivided attention until the session and voting was done. We don't elect people to just sit back and relax. Casual and lackadaisical behavior if you ask me. They were on the taxpayers time. But then again, I see tons of city and state workers stand around doing nothing all day everyday anyway, so should we really be that surprised?
Hey did anyone see what our Reps were doing while they were in session? My guess is that Nicastro was reading Trumpet Playing for Dummies and Calipetro was flipping through a Hairpiece catalog, LOL. Ok those were bad jokes, sorry :-)

Patti dear,

Please put away your crystal ball, hand over your tarot cards and spare us the dire predictions. This is good news for the city, not a "blank check" for anyone. I'm sure the mayor, city council and board of finance will use whatever funding is available to continue the restoration and improvement of our town. It's the naysayers like yourself that can't seem to "look ahead"...Lord help you!

7:08 poster,
Its the unions who put us in the RED!

8:34am - you are an embrassment.

7:08- The City budget assumed flat-funding of State Aid, which is what this budget provides. If any aid were cut, then further service cuts would be needed.

I hate it when people try to boil complex public finance issues down to "red" and "black." It's not so simple. Even the term "deficit" has a dozen different potential meanings. If you budget a $2M use of fund balance to close a budget gap but you only draw down $1M, are you black or red? If you have $100M in bonded debt and $230M in unfunded post-employment benefit liabilities, does that make you red, even if you're spending less than you're taking in within a fiscal year? So yeah, define "in the black" please.

But no, the concessions were needed just to get the budget to match anticipated revenues. No windfall here.

10:26, Ah yes...when one lacks a valid argument they should always go for the insults. Typical!

1:07pm well count yourself in - you insulted as well I might add. Guess your intelligent button must be broken today.

2:25, Referring to "Patti" as a naysayer was merely stating a fact. My "intelligent button"(?) is just fine, thanks!

If Kloko would only be candid and upfront with the people!

But this serve Arties needs, so it probably won't change.

We are getting sandbagged!

Why won't this administration be honest and upfront with us?

Anonymous said...

This administration doesn't have to do anything: they have no opposition, nobody watching over them.

We need a two party system in Bristol!

Union people pay taxes too. As long as you wackos don't take all their money away! With your favorite money makers for you. Namely the insurance companies.

It's the insurance companies that keep us in the red. Not them though !
