City needs hospital task force, Alford says

Press release from Republican mayoral candidate Mary Alford:

Bristol Hospital Dodges a Bullet

Bristol Connecticut: Republican Candidate for Mayor Mary Alford today stated that, “Bristol’s largest employer, Bristol Hospital, has survived a challenge to its existence with the news that the UConn Hospital plan will not get legislative approval for funding”

“The $5 Million proposal, if approved, could have a serious impact on community health needs as well as employment in Bristol. While it is good news it is only a temporary situation. The bi-partisan approach by our State delegation had impact; the City, the Hospital must not rest.” Alford said.

A legislative effort is almost certain to be re-crafted for next year. Alford said,” A community task force needs to be established now; there is no time to waste. Hopefully this is in the works at City Hall”.

“Our strategy needs to create a head wind to proponents of the UConn plan, as they will likely be doing the same. A best defense is a strong offense; we need a plan and we need it now” Alford said.

“I would like to thank Representatives Hamzy and Nicastro and State Senator Colopietro along with Kurt Barwis, president of Bristol Hospital, for working together to save the center of our community health needs”, Alford added.

Is Bristol Hospital Bristol's largest employer? I thought ESPN was?

They are on of the largest employer's in town, with more than 900 employees and a large majority of them actually live in Bristol.

more, more, more said...

another task force which will end up costing us taxpayers more money?

Bristol is a city hospital - I don't think the city owns ESPN - do you?

Or is it the City of Bristol???

CITY DOESN'T OWN THE HOSPITAL EITHER.

Mary keep up the good work..you are breathing new life into a stale Mayors office.

I was just questioning the validity of her statement “Bristol’s largest employer, Bristol Hospital..."

It may be "one of Bristol's largest employers" but it isn't THE largest.

I like Mary as a candidate, don't confuse me with a Ward follower. However all candidates should make sure that their statements are accurate when they issue press releases.

"Mary keep up the good work"

Uh? Good work? I must of missed something. All that Ms. A has done so far is chime in...usually a day late and a dollar short.

Bristol Hospital may happen to be in the city of Bristol, but that's about it. It is a private entity. What purpose would a city hospital task force serve? What a farce.

I thought Mocabee knew better.

But then, I could be wrong.

Mary, what about the town where do you see us in two years, and how will you get us out of the hole.

Mary,

There is a Task Force in place.

It is made up of the Mayor and the legislators.

You can volunteer if you'd like.

Once again, Mary misses the boat.

In addition to our elected officials, the hospital has a board of Directors and a large number of Corporators.

I'm sure Mr. Barwis will put them all to good use.

I'll bet tthat Nicastro and Colapietro have multiple copies of Alfords quote in preparation for their reelection bid.
