Lawton won't ask for donations

Independent mayoral candidate Gary Lawton issued this press release today:

While I realize that fund raising and donations to ones campaign is crucial, I believe that especially during these hard time I can not find it in me to ask for money to help in my campaign.
I have thought long and hard about this and just don't understand how I could ask someone to donate money to me, so I can spend it on advertising to let them know they should elect me , so that they can pay me. Once again maybe I am not understanding on how the political process goes but to me especially in these economic times people should keep their money for themselves, I personally just can't ask when others don't have to give to me
I would rather meet people and talk to them face to face, it is with that thought in mind that I hope to be able to have some meet the candidates and have our citizens ask me point blank the questions on their mind, such as how I plan to deal with the growing deficit, how to get downtown revitalized and how I think we should attract business to our city, but also as important I want ,like I said, before to hear their ideas because you never know when a good one will come along and I feel the entire city should be involved in the process of revitalization not only downtown but all of Bristol, cause we all have to work together to make it happen and I believe it can.

WOW that just saved me $100.00.

Steve, will he take donations, does he have a treasurer?

This is absurd; I'm offended that Lawton doesn't think it's appropriate for me to be donating to political candidates. I bet in 2 weeks we'll see a release from Lawton saying that he doesn't believe in yard signs.

how can he believe in lawn signs if he doesn'y have the money to buy them?

He's right. It would definitely be a waste of money campaigning for mayor. He doesn't stand the chance of a snowflake in hell.

I never said you could not donate, I said i felt i could not ask for donations because it did not feel right to me and because of the economic times. I whole heartedly believe if you believe in your candidate and want to help him financially then by all mean please do. I was just saying I will not have any fundraisers. If you would like to contact me my email is hoss0463@gmail. I hope to hear from all of Bristol becuase as i said we all need to work together to get Bristol moving in a positive direction.

You can't win without advertising and you can't advertise without money. So, unless Mr. Lawton is bankrolling the whole thing (which I doubt) then his campaign is a waste of time.

Mr. Lawton needs to work on his communications skills. His press release includes one of the longest "run on" sentence in the history of human kind. LOL

Frankly, I don't think he's any less literate than Artie "let's party," but he really should have someone review his public statements before making them part of the publicly recorded campaign.

Please drop out so that you don`t take away the vote for Mary. we need a new Mayor. This town can`t take 2 more years of going backWARDS.

The only thing going backwards around here is the mentality of certain bloggers.

Is this the type of person people really want making decisions for 60,000 people?

What makes you think Mrs. Alford could win anyway?

In short, I don't agree with 3:33 p.m. Gary should stay in the race. Mary Alford is not a good candidate.
I've met Gary and I've met Mary. In my opinion, he's a much better candidate than she is. When I spoke with Mary at an event in early September, I felt like she was pandering to me, and didn't think I'd be smart enough to catch it. It appeared to me as if she was afraid to engage in a dialogue on substantive issues facing Bristol. Instead, she tried to be cutesy and flip, and I just came away with the impression that she is not serious.

Apparently she wasn't "briefed" on what you were asking, and didn't have her handlers available to help her.

Heaven help us!

He is real, and what you see is what you get.

The question is: would he select the right people to help him?

11:28 AM...because it sure sounds like he'd need plenty of help!

I love people who have nothing to say positive about anyone on here.
While I have never met either of them personally, it strikes me funny that he more worried about people paying being able to pay their bills, heat homes etc. than give him money to have him tell people they should vote for him. Crazy i am sure it is but while everyone seems to be asking for money for something he is the only one not, trying to do it as a grass roots effort i guess and for those who would care to notice he never said you could not donate to anyone he just would not be asking .
Get it right people I read these every day and all i see is people complaining about money and how the politicians all just want to spend it and here is one possible one who is not asking for any as a matter of fact did he not say he would return 35% of his yearly salary. Ask your self this has Art Ward said he would has Ms. Alford said she would. He may be a little niave but at least he isn't asking for my money

10:30 AM, Your terrible spelling and run on sentences are just like Mr. Lawton's!

Naive doesn't begin to describe this gentleman. His heart may be in the right place, but that's about it.

since when did you become a rhodes scholar oct 1 4:21pm also why don't you and some of the others on here put up or shut up i bet none of you have ever run for office or maybe even have the guts
To afraid maybe the poison pen would be turned on you and you would not like it has much when people bash your best efforts.
Since 90% to 95% of you don't like Ward, don't like Alford, don't like Lawton then why don't you run oh that's right to busy on here playing arm chair Mayor instead of actually getting in the game

7:10, Hate to burst your bubble, but the 90%-95% of the people on here who don't like Ward are actually the same 3-4 people who are still ticked off that Zoppo lost. Ms. Alford just doesn't have what it takes and Mr. Lawton...well, let's not go there.
