Colapietro says state need online criminal registry listing those who make false accusations

Press release just issued by state Sen. Tom Colapietro, a Bristol Democrat:

State Senator Thomas Colapietro (D-Bristol) this year will push for creation of an online registry for individuals found to have intentionally falsely accused others of criminal conduct.

“People should be able to easily find out who has falsely accused someone of a crime,” said Senator Colapietro. “Not only will this registry help members of the public, it will also help to deter people from making false accusations and help to affirm those people who are truly victims and are seeking help from law enforcement officials.”

Under existing state law, knowingly giving information related to an actual occurrence that is false is considered a Class A misdemeanor (C.G.S. § 53a-180c(a)(3)). Individuals convicted of falsely reporting an incident in the second degree can serve a maximum of one year in prison.

“The penalty for making a false accusation is not steep enough,” Senator Colapietro said. “We need to make sure that, when a person suffers because someone made a false accusation about them, at the end of the day they get justice under our law.”

Senator Colapietro has asked the General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee to raise the concept as legislation during this year’s regular session.

...10:37, Come to think of it...I can't honestly remember Art making a single false accusation, although I do remember someone accusing him of sign stealing...

This is a burning issue Tom...way to go. How about a bill that would implement a 3 strikes law..oh wait a minute you voted against it!

Geez I read that over and over and I can't see where it says anything about putting people in prison. Are you guys lying again ? Or can't you read.

Anyone who votes to increase the amount of crack cocaine to be considered a dealer and votes againist a three strikes law is pro-criminal.

Look in the mirror Tom.

I happen to be a friend of Tom Colapietro and although I don't think this bill is a great idea because of the implications it might have on the issue of reporting rape. However, I do understand where he's coming from. As a man I appreciate that he cares for the rights of men as well as women.

I also happen to like Senator Colapietro very much because he was very polite to my mother when she worked at the capital and he's always very friendly to my wife and I.

I would also like to say to certain people that are falsely accusing me of posting certain things they should stop and/or identify themselves. Remember you may be on the list for making false accusations someday.

And the ignorance that you show in not knowing that I am friendly with Senator Colapietro as well as many prominent Democrats around town does not behoove you. So cut it out.

False accusers of what? rape? Are you nuts or just stupid?

How dare you write such a thing.

You are a coward for posting such garbage about people and not signing your name.

If someone wants to post anonymously about a LAW being put forward by a public figure that is their right.

But you have no right to make an unprovoked attack on average citizens for no reason.

What if you falsely accuse someone of filing a false complaint? Then what happens?

Where does it all end...........

These holier than thou people don't have to like the law . Maybe they will be on the list. Also I can tell some on here are just amatuer loud mouths. This is not a law, only a proposal to the judiciary committee to look into. Are you all afraid that most of you might be found out and put on the list? And to you know-it-alls it says all false accusations not specifically rape as you suggest. It shows that even if Colapietro comes up with something that they like these pundits wouldn't admit it. What are they good for ?

Unpovoked ? HaHaHaHa what a joker you are .
