Though Frank Nicastro isn’t running for another term on the City Council, he’s not ready to say he’ll never be back at City Hall.
“I always leave the door open,” said Nicastro, a city councilor who also serves in the state House. “Who knows what the future holds in store?”
Nicastro, a former mayor, said that he ran for re-election to the council in 2007 in part because Democrat Art Ward “would need the support” he could offer during his first term in office.
Now, though, Ward’s gotten his feet wet and “it’s time to move on,” Nicastro said.
Nicastro, elected in 2006 to the state House in the 79th District, was a councilor from 1987 to 1993, then put in 10 years as the city’s full-time mayor.
After a two year break, Nicastro successfully ran for a 3rd District council seat, which he has held since.
Nicastro said that with 20 years at City Hall, he believes it’s time for him to focus on his state responsibilities.
As the vice chairman of the legislature’s veterans committee, Nicastro said he’s doing his best to make sure that Connecticut’s veterans get all the support they need.
But he’s also finding the long hours at the Capitol are getting longer.
He said the state needs people like him “who aren’t afraid to speak out” and who are determined to help both taxpayers and hard-pressed municipalities across the state.
Nicastro said he feels a special responsibility to make sure mid-size cities “don’t get shortchanged” at the state level.
He said he enjoys serving in the House.
“I’m very happy in the state,” Nicastro said, and doesn’t have an itch to do anything more in politics – at least for now.

Phase I of the Nicastro return to the Mayors Office
Hartford will be happy to see him go.
That'll teach Art to take a vacation!
It would be great if Frank could figure out how to be Mayor, City Councilor, and state Rep all at the same time. Heck I think he should try and be the State Senator also.
C'mon Ellen!
Frank for Mayor in 09!
He was the best mayor in my lifetime easily.
If 67 year old Frank is not running this year, he probably never is. The presumption he might is in my mind a farce.

How sad is THAT?
I would take Nicastro first then Stortz a close second.

You seem to have had a sad lifetime.
Re: 5:44
Are you three years old?
No thanks, Frank held taxes during his term, the parks suffered, renovations suffered. When he left office my taxes went up so fast it cost my $1300 more a year! Raising them a little would have been easier to handle. No thanks to Frank for Mayor.
I'll take Stortz any day, over Ward, Nicastro, Johnson.
I hope he runs again.
I hope the Republicans get together and talk him into running.
We need Nicastro as Mayor. The only thing Ward has done is give his boy's nice contracts!
Ward...Moving Bristol Back-Ward!
Brisyol needs new blood.
1:58 ~ "We need Nicastro as mayor"??? You're kidding, right? We're all still paying for the last time Nicastro was mayor...talk about moving Bristol backward!!!
The next step will be some "dramatic" announcement by Nicastro. Another grandstanding move.
Wait and see.
I work at City Hall, have for number of years.
I too would like to see Bill come back.
He was fair, friendly, and quietly corrected a number of things that were wrong.
He gets maligned because he challenged some of the dept heads, which was long overdue, but he did get their attention.
He cut back on OT, as well as in other areas.
All in all, he was an asset to Bristol.
Latet anguis in herbia!
Nicastro was the man! I especially loved it when he would break out his trumpet. He was always positive and was a cheerleader for Bristol. He was great!
9:17 - "was" being the operative word...his time is past.
I think Ward will win the next election easily.
All we ever have for leaders in Bristol are old recycled politicians and union hacks who work for the city and put their own union interests above the city's interests. Anyone who is not one of them has no shot at winning anything.
No one loves Bristol like Frank.
10:42 ~
I'll take those old, experienced, "recycled" politicians (most of whom have been working for our community for years) over some young, uninvolved, inexperienced schlep anytime!

Yea, because these old farts have done such a great job these past 30 years improving the city? No thanks, these guys had more then enough time to ruin the city.
Nicastro--
Deja Moo
The nagging feeling that you have heard this bull before.

?????
Might we have a 3, 4, 5 way race?
no one here loves frank more than frank loves to love frank. is there a reason that he waited until ward was on vacation before he came out with this trash? doesn't sound like he has been helping ward at all - more like frank is continuing to bolster his ego behind someone else's back again.
Count on Frank running against Colapietro: He wants to be known as the Giant Killer.
He knocked Storts out of office, he knocked Kosta out of office, and he is looking to add another pelt to his belt.
The question is, is he willing to wait until 2010, when people will know him even better?
"Count on Frank running against Colapietro: He wants to be known as the Giant Killer."
Colapietro a "Giant"? He's going to be very vulnerable the next time around. But Frank is not going to be the one to swat him. It will be some one with new blood and a fresh perspective, a name you may not know yet. Look around...

Dream on, GOPster. Your party is in its death throes, and even when it was in its heyday it couldn't knock him off. Bristol is a "blue" town and it's never going red.
hope that open door slams shut on nicastro - enough is enough.
Odin, wasn't it less than 4 years ago that a republican won EVERY district in the city
Bristol will stay a blue town until they get the right people to run, in the right way!
Ken Johnson is good at slamming doors!
That was a few days ago. Has anyone checked with Frank since?
Odin: I will beat him, and Bristol will go Republican. Why? Because this porkulus plan and socialized medicine are going to leave us in a huge depression both financially and physically. We are heading into a HUGE mess, caused by Dodd, Obama, and even Tommy.
