Colapietro will wait for Wednesday to listen to Rell

State Sen. Tom Colapietro, a Bristol Democrat, said he "forgot all about" Gov. Jodi Rell's speech tonight, but would have watched the basketball game anyway.
"We all know what's she's going to say: we're in bad shape; we're broke; we need a bunch of money; we can't raise taxes," Colapietro said.
He said he'll listen to her address to lawmakers Wednesday when she produces a proposed budget.
Even so, he said, her proposal won't pass as it is.
Colapietro said his own goals are to try to avoid layoffs and to preserve key services as much as possible.
Colapietro said that the Capitol today was abuzz with a more serious and heartbreaking piece of news -- the suicide over the weekend of a state senator's 13-year-old son.
"It's really sad," he said.
Recalling the dumb and dangerous things he did as a young man, Colapietro said that he wonders how he got through it all. Those can be tough years, he said.
"It must have been more than a kid could handle" in the case of the senator's son, Colapietro said.

Thanks for your leadership, Tom. Good to see your priorities are straight.

Tom is such an embarassment every time he opens his mouth.

Anonymous said...

What possible reason did he have for mentioning the suicide? Its not in the news from what I can see so why add to the family's pain by spreading the gossip?

There's your senator!

Extremely disrespectful. Way to try to work together Tom.

If what the senator told me is true, it would sure be news in my book. But it doesn't involve anyone I cover so it's not my news to investigate.

If Tom wasn't going to listen to Rell's speech, why didn't he go to the library with Hamzy and help educate us on our state budget? No, he watches basketball and seems to be proud of that! Jeez...

I have been a Colapietro supporter in the past, but enough is enough. This guy doesn't have a clue.

The suicide of a young child is very sad and my condolences go out to the family. However does Tom not think the current state disaster of a budget is important? The state is broke Tom!!! That is why we have a budget deficit, people are losing jobs left and right, Tom!! How about something: like all options are on the table as our fine state is facing the biggest crisis in more than a decade and I look forward to working with the Governor to solve this problem. Not I will not even listening as there is a good basketball game on!! What a joke!!

Basketball over politics? That sounds right to me.

time for new blood, he is even making democrats cringe in embarassment.

And I'm sure that EVERYONE who's posted here so far was glued to their radio or TV at 6 PM on Monday listening to the governor's speech...

Tom continues to be an embarassment but we keep sending him back! Shame on us

Ken Johnson for Senator!

We Republicans want our shot at being embarassed.

Anonymous said...

Basketball over politics is okay, but not if you're a state senator and the budget is in the hole and people are out of work and the governor is talking about it and the state rep is holding a forum. No excuse is good enough. We Democrats have a lot to be sorry for with this guy.

Run Ken Run!

Gee is there anything Tom could say to make you naysayers happy? I think not. You're still at it? Ya lost get it ?

Anonymous said...

As much as you anti everything as long as it's a Democrat. What's the big deal if she said nothing anyway? He said he will hear her details anyway. Get real you guys ! Tell us all what you learned by her speech. You're right enough is enough.......OF YOU ! You critics are the real embarrassement and you obviously lie so much you even believe yourselves. Talk about embarrassements.

LMAO what a joke ...when did you ever put him in office?

Anonymous said...

johnson would have to show up - at least colapietro does that - without angryly slamming/breaking the door behind him.

Amazing. I can't believe this guy is a senator. He couldn't slide out of his recliner and get down to the library for the budget forum? Are we all supposed to learn what's going on in Hartford except the guy who represents us there? I guess we're on our own.

Anonymous said...

was ken johnson at hamzy's forum last night? didn't think so.

Ken Johnson is not our State Senator. Tom Colapietro is, and he stated he was watching basketball. It's too bad.

But we are not on our own. Thank God we have Bill Hamzy, and he filled us in on what's been going on with the state's finances. It's no wonder Colapietro was hiding in his house. It is not a pretty picture of the Democratic majority and their big spending.

Why would Johnson show up, he knows everything already.

Anonymous said...

Hey Naysayers I hope we aren't that desperate that we have to have an unknown like you to work with our Governor to solve all our problems. I don't like faceless dictators!

Steve is all this blog polite ? Most of it seems mean spirited not polite!

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Tom will be there when it counts and I heard her speech . I didn't hear anything that I didn't already know. No wonder he watched the game. You guys have a right to oggle over her go ahead. But she didn't say anything . You guys are just plain naysayers. So business as usual I guess. Faceless cry babies. Some fair blog!

Anonymous said...

I think this blog is absolutely fair. The consensus seems to be that our Senator is not showing any leadership in this financial crisis. We are not happy about that, because it affects all of us. That is not being nasty, or personal. It is a legitimate complaint about the job our Senator is doing, or rather, ignoring.

Did Hamzy personally fill Ken Johnson in on the state situation?
After all, he wants to be our next mayor and should have some idea as to what is happening and what the people are thinking.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait to vote him out.

Anonymous said...

11:00 Hamzy? lol. What consensus? Not mine. Just your two friends don't make a consencus. We'll see at election time. Go pat yourselves on the back some more. You like that!

Anonymous said...

So tell us if your so smart tell us all what you learned at Hamzys budget forum. Besides your kiss butt wish list !

Anonymous said...

I learned, first and foremost, that Bill cares and Tom doesn't.

Anonymous said...

"The consensus seems to be that our Senator is not showing any leadership in this financial crisis."

That's the understatement of the week.

What about that Super Lotto that the Senator has proposed? It's a reverse Robin Hood... take from the poor to give to government.

A Super Lotto would be a cruel trick that would play on the hopes of the most destitute members of society.

Now that's leadership!

Meanwhile, Tom won't give liquor store owners the right to open up on Sunday. How would you like it if you were told that you couldn't operate your business on the second most profitable day of the week.

Shame on Tom that he has nothing more to offer the people of the state. He doesn't have the courage to cut anything! When's the last time that the Permanent Commission on the Status of Women did anything for me?

Anonymous said...

Sunday liquor sales would help to balance the budget and be a boon to Connecticut consumers... who vastly outnumber package store owners.

Anonymous said...

Tom, Shame on you for mentioning the suicide.. no doubt the family is grieving. However, there's no reason for you to broadcast someone's bad news across the state.

It shows a terrible lack of discretion, and poorly reflects the office you hold.

Anonymous said...

Skipping the governor's budget address to watch a basketball game and not attending a budget forum.

A four-letter word summarizes that attitude L-A-Z-Y.

Tom no longer works for or listens to us. That's for sure.
