Another council hopeful: Calvin Brown

Democrat Calvin Brown has jumped into the race for a 1st District City Council seat.
Calvin Brown
Brown, 20, announced his entry into the race this weekend with the creation of a Facebook page for his campaign.
On his own page, Brown wrote, "We need to show how excited people are about our generation taking the lead. it STARTS here, and ENDS in the White House."
The only other candidate to formally enter the contest is Republican Tom Hick, who also declared his intention to run recently on Facebook.
Incumbent GOP city Councilor Eric Carlson has not said whether he will seek a second term. The other incumbent, Democrat Mayra Sampson, promised she would not run for the part-time post when Mayor Art Ward tapped her to fill a vacancy created when Democrat Kevin Fuller resigned on May 1.
Despite his young age, Brown has been active in city politics for years. He ran unsuccessfully for a Board of Education seat two years ago.
Brown is a political science student at Central Connecticut State University. He graduated from Bristol Eastern High School in 2011.
He plans to declare his candidacy at Tuesday's Democratic Town Committee meeting, a session that may see the emergence of a handful of candidates, among them Chris Wilson, who plans to announce his mayoral bid there.
Full disclosure: My son and Calvin are friends who serve together on U.S. Rep. John Larson's Youth Cabinet.

I went through middle school with Calvin and he was one of my sisters close friends. I knew from the moment I saw Calvin that he was going to do something great. He was always more mature then most people in our grade and even when he was younger he always seemed to have a plan. Long story short this is no surprise to me. If anyone can do something amazing it's Calvin Brown.
