Police officer suspended for 60 days

A city police officer arrested in Florida last April for allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend at Disneyworld has agreed to a 60-day suspension from Bristol’s force and to resign if he’s convicted on the charges.
Officer Marc Blazejowski, 33, has been on an extended medical leave since May. He will serve the suspension when he returns to work.
“It’s just not a happy situation,” Mayor Art Ward said Tuesday.
The mayor said he agreed to the deal with Blazejowski and the police union because it seemed better to have a “pretty definitive” agreement rather than face the “legal uncertainty” of trying to act in the wake of the Florida case.
Several city officials said they anticipate the felony charges against Blazejowski will be dropped soon because his former girlfriend doesn’t want to testify. But that could not be confirmed Tuesday with Orange County, Fla. prosecutors or police.
Blazejowski, an 11-year veteran, agreed to the suspension as a way to resolve the internal investigation into the Florida case.
In it, he admits to violating the department’s code of conduct and to conduct unbecoming of an officer.
Blazejowski also agreed to “immediately resign” from the Bristol force if he is “convicted or accepts a plea for any domestic charge arising from the April 13, 2010 incident.”
In addition, Blazejowski, who could not be reached for comment, agreed that if he violates any serious city or department policy work in the future or again acts in a way that is unbecoming of an officer, he will be fired. He won’t even be allowed to appeal. Click here for full story.

It must be nice to be in the police and fire union. All you have to do is bring up an old work related injury and you can take the next seven month plus off with pay.I'm not saying they don't have a very tough job because they do and i give them a lot of respect but I'm sure we all have tough jobs and don't have that benefit!!

The PRESS DOESNT WANT TO MANY COMENTS ON THIS SUBJECT. They may have to do a follow up story.

Unable to post a comment to BPD cop suspended for 60 days? Our system is a complete disgrace! Domestic violence is such a huge problem in this state and it explains why women can't get any help from the PD until they are dead!! The officer's GF needs to be strong and leave before she is another victim. He will never change and it will be worse when that baby comes. He is a disgrace as a man and certainly as a police officer.

You've got to be kidding, right? Hartford? Where the mayor was sent off to prison and they just had about their 100th homicide of the year?

The only ones laughing their asses off are those of us reading your stupid comments!!!

This is a perfect example of poor leadership all the way around.

The POLICE DEPT in BRISTOL is making history. Maybe time for a new CHIEF since this one has no clue what hes doing.

I guess I'm missing it?
Where did management make a mistake?
Seems like it's being handled as it should.
I think it's a nice touch discussing it rationally with the union.
The officer looks like he is being contrite.

I just read this mornings courant front page story on this guy - Steve why no update? What the heck was the Mayor, personnel office, chief, police commission doing when the 2006 stuff was happening?????? Is it possible that some/all of these folks were kept in the dark? if so, by whom? why? is there any more in this guys background? anybody looking at neighbors or friends or elsewhere? heck, I'm not a reporter, but seems to me there are a lot of questions/ by the way what did the union know and when/ if the guy was stalking, why no arrest for that? if he was getting into fights with city people, why wasn't he disciplined for that. courant seems to have done a good start storylets see where this fiasco leads us- looks like Mossback event was just a recurrance of a pattern of behavior by the people who supervise, hire and fire.

Steve,

Just how did you miss the 2006 stuff? My opinion has change.
This guy needs serious help no matter what he does in life. He should NOT be a police officer.

What the hell is management thinking?

Steve Collins said...

Ben -- The 2006 wasn't in his personnel file. That was in the internal affair report, which I did not have access to.
Another Press reporter looked at that and there will soon be a story.

Steve,

Blazejowski is a menace to others. That 2006 report is appalling. How on Earth could Mayor Ward support returning him to the force? For God's sake, there's an incident in which Blazejowski starts playing with a .223 rifle in the report.

Please continue to report on this story, no matter what.

The entire populace of Bristol feels abandoned.

There are Bristol cops who were in my Cub Scout pack, there are Bristol cops who I hung out with in middle school- I don't trust any of them, I don't want them around my loved ones.

Great, so these are the people who are supposed to protect our citizens. What would this cop do when responding to a domestic violence call, high-five the abuser and let it slide?

For both her sake and the baby's, I hope she broke up with him and has a very firm restraining order.

Ben said...

Steve,

I await the story.
Did the mayor, HR, and union know about this?
He got a nice deal. All we are left with is getting him some help.
Please somebody in charge get this guy some help.

Nobody outside the Police Department and Fergie were made aware of the IA report

Ben said...

Ok, Now I am wondering.

If I was the Union Steward for him in 2006, I would have cut a deal.
If he had no more occurances in a agreed length of time the IA report would be pulled from his record.

Is this what happened?

HR would still know, but the Mayor might be blind sided. Since she (HR) agreed to remove it, then it couldn't be use in their decision.

As far as police "being human" and these things happen.
My question how many Police are in BPD? 40-50?
I've worked in places with 2,000 and 500+ employees. Sure this stuff happen, once, every few years. Every 6 months for 40-50 employees, in my book is way above average.
