Republican convention

With the GOP gathering in the Twin Cities for next week's convention and an obscure Alaskan governor about to become one of America's best known politicians, it's time to open a thread here to talk about the Republicans. Have at it.

I would think that now we will have to start eating crabs on Friday .Alaska is a big crab fishing state and we saw what big oil did in the Whitehouse.

I'm reading about this Sarah Palin person, and I have to ask - is the support of the conservative wing of the GOP so essential that McCain needed to go with someone so unqualified? I understand the goal is to get McCain elected at all cost, but will this really work? He doesn't really think that any disaffected Hillary supporters will vote for McCain/Palin, does he?

Sarah Palin is a governor, and before that she was a mayor. She is experienced at being the one top person shouldering responsibility, and she has done well. Certainly she is more qualified for president than Obama. We are lucky to have her as a vp candidate. I am one woman who can't wait to vote for her.

Ditto 3:41!

I bet you ladies who posted the last couple of comments wish you could take them back, now that your holier-than-thou Governor Palin turns out to have feet of clay. Her teenage daughter has been having unprotected sex and gotten pregnant! I guess she didn't know how babies got made because the Governor took her out of the family life class, and made her take the one on creationism instead. Looks like the Republican's beloved "absentance only" policy has a new poster child.

Dumb-o-crats know Palin is a great pick. Obama and his baby-sitter Biden-the-blow-hard are doomed.

Uh oh, sounds like 12:30's lil wifee didn't greet him at the door with his pipe and slippers last night, and now he's all grumpy. Sorry 12:30, but Ms. Palin's daughter isn't the first pregnant 17-year-old and those of us have 17-year-olds know that you can talk about birth control until you're blue in the face, and they'll still go out and do what teenagers do. The fact that Ms. Palin isn't "holier-than-thou," and she has the same trials and tribulations as the rest of us actually makes her a more appealing candidate. I can't wait to see her in office!

McCain/Palin - oh ya!

Anybody but the empty suit Obummer

First Obama ran against Bush ..... then he ran against Palin .... now he is running agaisnt Palins' 17 yr. old daughter ...

What's the matter .... afraid to run against Mc Cain ?!?!?!?!

Only a republican on here can be that hypocritical. First pro life then daughter gets pregnant after Mom preaches abstinance yada yada yada.

Grumpy here:

Well, all I know is MY daughter got through high school without getting knocked up, thanks to the values that my wife and I taught her which sure as hell aren't Mrs. Palin's. So I'll match my "liberal" values up against her "conservative" values any day and come out on top. Talk is cheap, and the proof is in the pudding.

```````````````````
It is quite possible that your daughter had an abortion w/o parental knowledge / consent .
Put that in your smoke and pipe it .
Gee Grumpy,
I think this is more about teenage hormones than values. Talk is indeed cheap and the fact that Ms Palin's daughter has parents who stand behind her and support her in her time of need speaks volumes.
Talk IS cheap !!You clowns must be awful cheap !!Like we all say on here anything goes as long as the republican cry babies can do it.
I gotta say as a citizen voter and yes even democrat Im getting a little tired of heairng about this pregnancy bull. It really has no place in an election as important as this. I have to say I completely agree with Senator Obama when he says family is off limits. Alot of families deal with things like this. While yes and she is a public official and yes there is a bit of irony in the situation its completely irrelevant. Much like her husband's 20 year old DUI conviction completely irrelevant. This is by no way an edorsement of Palin as Im fully in the Obama corner but just a plea to have people stick to more substantive issues.
Grumpy sez:
Her husband's DUI twenty years ago is not a reflection on Palin, but her daughter's pregnancy is. Oh, I'm sorry, did I offend you by saying that the parent is responsible for how a child turns out? Well, if Palin was a crack addict you would certainly be blaming her daughter's pregnancy on her lifestyle, and don't deny it. Conservative = hypocrite.
"did I offend you by saying that the parent is responsible for how a child turns out?"
No, but your pompous attitude did. Teenagers are only half-baked and sometimes make poor decisions, no matter what kind of morals and values parents try to instill. To condemn Ms. Palin because her 17-year-old made a mistake is ludicrous. It seems the Palins love their daughter and will be there for her, no matter what...probably not a luxury your daughter would have had if she had made the same mistake.
Anonymous said...
You can sure tell all three are back !! OOPS four !
Anonymous said...
Oh yeah !! Teach more abstinance!
Grumpy sez:
If Gov. Palin was just another working mom trying to get by in a tough world, I would be completely sympathetic to their situation. But she is a self-righteous hypocrite who McCain picked to be his running mate because his pollsters told him he couldn't win in November without pandering to the so-called "values voters". So her public humiliation over what ought to have been a private matter is especially sweet.
Anonymous said...
A yes, there's nothing like sweet humiliation of a fellow human being during a very difficult and painful time...and you think Palin is a self-righteous hypocrite? Guess it takes one to know one.
Anonymous said...
"a very difficult and painful time"? Really?? From their press releases it sound like the Palin family is thrilled about their beautiful new grandchild and how proud they are of their daughter making "the right" decision based on the values that they taught her. What "difficult and painful time"? I say again - hypocrites.
Anonymous said...
Gee Grumpy,
I kinda think they're just protecting and supporting their daughter. If you think that makes them hypocrites, I guess you're entitled to your opinion, but judging from Ms. Palin's strong performance last night at the convention she's going to make one heck of a great VP!
Anonymous said...
Experience as an executive doesn't qualify you to be President. How much time has she got listening to the debate on foreign policy? My guess is none on the soccer field.
Anonymous said...
Well Steve if you can't say anything good about them it's best to say nothing at all. So be it !
Please don't say too many things bad about Mocababy they might bring him back. But I guess that's not the worse that can happen to the democrats. Although you can tell he's still on here because of his mentality.
