The new Route 72 extension, which won’t be finished until summer, is already proving a hit.
The $61 million road has eased morning and evening congestion for commuters, officials said, by providing drivers with more options and a nicer, safer route through Forestville.
“All the comments I’ve heard have been positive,” said Mayor Art Ward.
There are no longer traffic jams in the morning, said Dayton Schroeter, the project engineer for the state Department of Transportation, and evening rush hours are also seeing “a big improvement.” Click here for story.

I read this story in the dePress and was amazed at the typical one-sided, and pro-Bristol Democrat, pro-bureaucrat, pro-local-yokel slant.
No complaints? Are you in na-na land? Please note the time of opening until there is a major accident (I hope I'm wrong) on either the merge going west onto East Main or one of the signals at Lincoln Ave. or Central Street. Again let's pray it doesn't happen, but this highway design seems a bit dangerous to say the least
I would hope The Bristol Press would be pro-Bristol.
Unfortunately what's "pro-Bristol" in your mind is not in mine.
Na-na land???
Geez...what we're really praying for is an end to all the pointless, boneheaded, negative commentary.
Steve,
I would hope so too, bu I do have my doubts.
The BRISTOL PRESS is pro BRISTOL.You will never see a negative thing of whats going on. The POLICE DEPT THE SCREW UP ON MAIN ST. WHY?
Being pro-Bristol is not the same as ignoring news that isn't pleasant. It HELPS the community to know what's going wrong so that people can fix it.
Have you taken a right turn exiting 72 west ontop East Main? You think that's safe? Oh that's right you never leave Bristol expect perhaps on CT Biz Day when you go to the Capitol to kiss Democrat Legislative butt.
seems like a lot of speeders on this new road, extremly fast too!
Too bad the press doesn't work at promoting Bristol.
How do you stop at one of the shops when traffic is doing 50plus mph.
Faster way for Ward to get to the Legion for a beer! Has to be good for him.
na, na, na na na na na, hey Jude!
I think it does a good job a relieving congestion. It does only have a 45 mph speed limit, and the people that fly at 60 are going to cause the accident.
I would suggest that if the anonymous coward finds the road frightening, East Main in Forestville is quite pleasant to drive on with less traffic on it.
Thanks you Steve.
Where is the news of mismanagement of our city depts and Police dept. We only here about what the officals want. I think the real owners are some of the politicans. Thats why the press never follows a story to its end. For a example look at the goings on in the police dept. The chief who has been brought up on more charges then the guys under him and nothingis ever said. ENGEERING dept that cant read blue prints but they all keep there jobs. In the private sector you would be gone. Not in BRISTOL it gets swept under the rug.
7:34 AM: I love this town and I think you're a negative dolt, but I must admit that if you're a product of Bristol's public school system...they really did fail you.
HIGHWAYS DON'T HAVE TRAFFIC SIGNALS!!!!!!!
Mayor:
Try returning some of your calls, you might be surprised as to what you'll hear.
I still can not understand the thinking behind letting that completed section sit for a year before allowing it to be opened .
There are no street light on it and it REALLY dark at night
8:41 your the jerk the truth hurts. The if the press told the real news the people would start to take this city back.
12:19 PM: Oh come on now, read 7:34 AM's rambling, 2nd grade level comment. If he/she actually is a product of our school system, then it needs to be ranked on. That really doesn't make me hypocritical...moron.
3:13 PM: That's why they put those clever little gizmos called HEADLIGHTS in all of our cars. Try them, they really work!
10:21 PM, Touched a nerve did I? LMAO!
I can love my hometown and still be honest about the fact that there are some obvious gaps in our public ed system (as 7:34 AM has made blantly clear). That makes me neither disingenuous or phoney, but does prove who the real jackass is...jackass! LMFAO!!!
