You know, something catchy that could lure people to town without being deceptive.
It can't be "Come to Bristol and You'll Be Rich Within Days!" because that would be a lie.
It should focus on the community's positive attributes, of course, rather than something akin to "See the world's dumpiest mall in Bristol!"
What's needed is a slogan that would bolster spirits and catch the community's virtues in just a few words. It's not easy to do, but I have faith that some of this blog's readers are up to the challenge.
Okay, strictly speaking, that's not true. I'm actually pretty skeptical of seeing a good slogan emerge here, given the drivel that's usually posted as comments, but, hey, you never know.

How about ressurecting one from the last campaign;
BRISTOL IS GOING FOR-WARD
How about "Welcome to Bristol -- Land of the nay sayers and arm chair quarterbacks. A town where no matter what good intentioned people try there will be a group who will put it down, attack the participants and be down right ugly. Yes that's Bristol -- Home of the negative!
"Bristol- The next New Britain"
"Bristol- The next Waterbury"
"When you're here, you're lazy"
"Dead End"
"As good as it gets"
"What you see is what you get"
"Bristol- the land of the unemployed and the home of the overtaxed"
"Bristol- we just want to get you alone"
"Dream big,...then keep dreaming"
"DON'T- Come on down "
"What happens here, ends up in the 10 o'clock news !!"
"WORLD'S LARGEST COLLECTION OF SHOPPING CARTS, DOLLAR STORES, BANKS and RUN DOWN APARTMENT BUILDINGS"
"Come downtown and be lucky to go home"
"Bristol- Our cops pull you over for ANY reason possible"
"Birsol- Home of Rocky"
Bristol: Love it or Leave it. So I left.
Steve, I think you've got some winners there! How will you be able to pick the best one?
I feel intimidated at all these great ideas. How can I compete?
Okay, here's one. How about:
"Bristol... Not as bad as you think."
Or, "Bristol. Better than you fear."
Bristol. It could be worse.
Bristol. Best seen from the rear view mirror.
Bristol -- Get out while you can.
Steve, right again, nothing but drivel. ...and we wonder why.
sounds like a bunch of "TAKERS" whimpering about everything except themselves rather than those who would "GIVE" anything at all.
"Bristol - Sports capital of Connecticut!"
Bristol, home of the big mac, whopper, subway and any other fast food joint you can think of !!
...I really like the "Bristol, love it or leave it" slogan. I just wish all the people who critize, belittle, bash, moan, groan and complain would join Frank Longo's ghost and LEAVE (and take "nick said" with them). Then maybe we really could say...Bristol, we're moving forward...
"Bristol...We may not be good...but we're slow
Bristol -- breakfast and buffoons.
...If you morons spent one quarter of the time and effort you expend on bashing Bristol doing something POSITIVE instead...imagine how much better off we'd all be. You seem to have no problem sitting on your duffs spewing your venum from the keyboard and bitching about just about everything, but do any of you volunteer for anything? Do you work at the soup kitchen? Do you mentor a student who needs help? Visit the elderly? Why don't you all put some effort into building Bristol instead of constantly tearing it down...
Bristol Drug store Capital of the world.
Lets build anouther one Lets build anouther one on the corner of North Main and Rt.6
someone should write a book ....
" The rise and fall of Bristol "
I'll bet I know which one Artie would pick.
Simple fact is, slogans won't change reality.
We are what we are, and only we can change it.
Are we up to it?
Do you think the "Rocky" image will help? We in Bristol might put it in context, but you know it will be on TV.
People like Ward and Leone should give some thought to the image they are creating.
And people like Geladino "throwing in the towel". Sure made Bristol look good.
There are mnay many good things, but we seem to go for the worst.
I think the City already picked one for us. have you gone by the mall? there are pretty banners that read "Its Time....to Move Bristol forward."
Hmmm, where have we heard that before?
Its almost funny if it wasn't so pathetic.
BRISTOL - CHINESE BUFFETS, DOLLAR STORES AND HOMELESS PEOPLE
Bristol. Home to every driver that cuts you off on I-84 west.
Bristol. Too scared to be West Hartford.
Bristol. Like Hartford in the 70's.
Bristol? Just tell them you're from Forestville. <...where?>
Is the slogan for Bristol or
for Ward?
This is just another "Ward campaign gimmick.
Didn't Perez get nailed for something like that?
John Leone told me the carpenters' union was paying for some banners. I suspect the ones people have mentioned were put up by the union. I'm pretty sure the city didn't pay for them.
Nick, your one big looser, why don't you pack up and leave Bristol if your not happy. That would make Bristol a much better place.
Bristol for breakfast!
"Nick, your one big looser,"
Now, that, ladies and gentlemen, is some fine writing.
Bristol, where you can get away with murder.
Bristol -- Look ma, no hands!
BRISTOL - FAT FREE SINCE 1974
Bristol, the mall says it all.
Fat free? I don't think so.
Bristol: Donuts R Us.
Bristol .... the town established before a compass was discovered .
Main Street perpendicular to North and South Streets , Yet , parallel to North Main Street and West Street .
BRISTOL-The Heart of Central Connecticut
BRISTOL-Sports Capital of America
BRISTOL-Connecticut's Rising Star
DING FRIES ARE DONE!
DING FRIES ARE DONE!
DING FRIES ARE DONE!
WOULD YOU LIKE AN APPLE PIE WITH THAT?
WOULD YOU LIKE AN APPLE PIE WITH THAT?
WOULD YOU LIKE AN APPLE PIE WITH THAT?
How about:
We've got ART!
(You pick which Art)
...Bristol, home of a lot of good, hardworking, optimistic people trying to make it a better place...and a small bunch of whiny, nasty jackasses trying to hold em all back...GO BRISTOL!
Bristol, where your tax dollars are wasted
How about...
Come to Bristol....and spend your money everywhere else.
How about "Bristol, where the heart is"?
No wonder the people in Forestville are so adamant about being from Forestville.
Whatever happened to the suggestion that Stortz made at a BDDEC meeting to come up with a name for the Mall site so that we can get away from the image of the name "The Mall"?
We need something to get over the picture of 40 years of failure.
Thanks to Couture and Stortz, as well as Ward, things are moving forward.
A name to identify that progress would be a huge plus in my mind.
How about a contest???
I got it!!!
We've got Nicastro!
How about: Consultants love us, how about you?
How about?
We are committed. We will continue to do it until we get it right!
