As of 3 o’clock, despite the rain, 24 percent of Bristol’s eligible voters had showed up for the primary today.
“We’re busy as hell,” said Democratic Registrar Bob Badal.
He said there haven’t been any glitches and things are going smoothly.
The biggest problem may be that so many independents are showing up wanting to vote, too.
Both Badal and Jean Lombardo, the Democratic registrar in Plainville, said many unaffiliated voters are trying to vote in the Democratic primary. But it’s too late for them to switch so they’re not allowed to cast a ballot.
Lombardo said a number of Republicans are also saying they’d like to vote in the Democratic primary. But they have to stick with the GOP, she said, at least until the November general election when everyone can vote for anyone they like.
