First results, from American Legion precinct

In District 79B, where 896 people voted today, here are the results:

Republicans
McCain - 83
Romney - 59
Huckabee - 22
Paul - 13

Democrats
Clinton - 422
Obama - 275

There were a handful of other votes cast for candidates no longer in the race. Mike Gravel, the former Alaska senator who is still running on the Democratic side, got 1 vote.
Poll workers at the Legion hall said they turned away more than 125 independents today, including a handful who were quite angry they couldn't vote. That's telling, and kind of sad.

How in Heaven's name could an Independent in Connecticut think that they would be allowed to vote in a Democrat or Republican primary?

This does not bode well for a well informed electorate.

No steve it's not sad. They had up to noon the day before to register with a party.

What is truly sad is that people don't know what thier registered as.

The Secretary of the State and the candidates committees in Connecticut did a good job of rying to steer people to register with a party. Either these people don't watch the news or read the news but at the end of the day its no ones fault but thier own.

Sometime in life you need to take personal responsibility for your actions.

It's not sad that they weren't allowed to vote. That's just the law.
It's sad that so many wanted to vote, but couldn't. I wish, of course, they'd registered properly.
I have always urged people to pick a party. It makes no sense at all to register as an independent.
