John McCain - City Councilor Mike Rimcoski
Mitt Romney - City GOP Chairman Art Mocabee
Ron Paul - State Rep. Bill Hamzy
Democratic Primary
Hillary Clinton - state Sen. Tom Colapietro and former city Treasurer Patti Ewen
Barack Obama - Mayor Art Ward and city Councilor Craig Minor
And what they each said about the candidates they prefer:
City Councilor Mike Rimcoski, Republican: "I think it will be John Mccain; he tells you one story and sticks with it. He spent nearly 5 years in the Hanoi Hilton, which proves his character. I think Hilllary is carrying to much luggage - mainly about 200 pounds in a silver hair slippery womanizer."
Former city Treasurer Patti Ewen, Democrat: "I hope Hillary continues to win delegates. Think it will be an interesting split as I think the polls may not reflect the continuig shifting of sentiment.
Think both candidates are bright, articulate, caring people...Clinton has the needed exposure & seasoning both nationally and globally.
And isn't it amazing that we enter the 21st century considering a presidential race between a woman and an African-American male."
Mayor Art Ward, Democrat: "My support goes to Obama because of the inspiration that he seems to be instilling in a broad wave of new voters while captivating the sea of those voters who are already registered in the Democratic Party.I think that Barack's presence on the ballot and the populace's allegiance for his candidacy will provide the impetus for a huge turnout at the polls on Tuesday."
State Rep. Bill Hamzy, Republican: "The only person in this race who has gotten me the least bit excited about this election is Ron Paul. If people would stop dismissing him and actually listen to what he has to say, I believe they would be impressed and begin to understand him as well. Although I don't agree with him on everything, he is absolutely right on foreign policy as well as his economic views. So, I will be proudly supporting Ron Paul on Tuesday and hope many other Republicans take the time to hear what he is saying. I believe they will agree."
State Sen. Tom Colapietro, Democrat: "I think that Barack Obama is very charismatic and his policies are good but I give the edge to Hillary because she has a lot more experience than Obama. I like him a lot but I think she is a very intelligent , strong woman. At this time I will vote for her. The people that have talked to me seem to be for her as well."
City Councilor Craig Minor, Democrat: "I'm supporting Barack Obama. I think Clinton failed to show responsible leadership when she jumped on the bandwagon to invade Iraq. I also think that the Democrats are a lock to win the White House, but if we run Clinton, she will energize Republicans who might otherwise stay home on Election Day."
City Republican Party Chairman Art Mocabee: "As a chairman, I should remain neutral, however, I can tell you that in November, Bristol Republicans conducted a "Straw Poll" among our loyalists and found that Rudy was the front runner. Well, we all know the wisdom of that choice! The second place finisher in the Bristol straw poll, who was also the first place finisher in a straw poll conducted by State Republicans in Middletown last week was Mitt Romney. However, recent state wide polling suggests that Senator McCain is the front runner in CT now. Breaking from tradition, I personally like the more conservative Romney and will support him."

Could someone please let patti know that mrs. clinton and mr. obama are in the same party and will NOT be competing against each other in the Presidential election .
Chippen's Hill for Clinton ,time for a women president to lead this country.
Hey Mocabee! Mitt just called. He'd actually like to try and win in Connecticut so he'd like you to endorse someone else.
Ward needs an english teacher.
Someone take the thesauraus away from this Loser!
I'm surprised that Ward, Colapietro and Minor are supporting Obama - a person that has a problem respecting our flag and how meaningful it is to us. Especially those of us that are veterans.
I'm a veteran and I support Obama. When did he disrespect the flag?
.....Steve, another example of the lack of mentality and respect for the opinion of others; it's sad that what is supposed to be an open forum for everyone to, respectfully, express their choices for the upcoming Presidential candidate primary has to become a personal execution - sad, terribly sad.
Oh yeah lets put a woman in the president seat because she is a woman. McCain is a better choice then these 2 clowns!
...12:52, There goes Mr. Mayor using all of those BIG words again...I know it's confusing for you. You shouldn't tax your little mind trying to understand. Perhaps I can translate for you...Mr. Ward likes Mr. Obama...He isn't voting for a lama. He isn't voting in a tree. He isn't voting with a bee...
February 3, 2008 12:52 PM: Agreed!! I'm glad someone else sees that.
I wouldn't base my pick for President on the opinions of any of these local-yokels.
...10:53, Our "local yokels" were simply answering a question that was posed to them. Whether or not you value their opinion is of absolutely no consequence to anyone...why even comment if you have nothing to add to the discussion????
Because I take any opportunity I get to express my opinion of what a bunch of non-qualified buffoons you are, ecpecially the Democrats.
.....12:52 - what "BIG" word after "a" would you like us to help you with?
...and if you don't want to read my comment perhaps you should just keep your big fat mouths shut.
.....2:11pm - do we genuflect before having the privilege of hearing the wisdom of your egotistical, perverted thoughts or upon falling to our knees in pity for your sanctimonious stupidity?
..."just keep your big fat mouths shut"...Wow, spoke like a true scholar!...and then you wonder why we don't want to listen to your opinion?...( ! )
To the surpised person that said Ward and Colapietro are supporting Obama. I guess whoever read that to you can't read either.Ward-Obama Colapietro-Hillary. Or as someone says they "lie too." Are you one of them ??
I guess the republicans weren't dirty enough in the Colapietro campaign with Bobroske. Theirrreeee baccccccckkkk !!!!!
Ward tries to sound like he's in great command of the English language. What he really sounds like is an ignoramous trying to over-compensate for his lack of education.
...Ward is a pretty articulate guy. The fact that he's got an impressive vocabulary seems to be a threat to some ignoramuses who are trying to overcompensate for their own er...shortcomings. By the way, it's ignoramus not "ignoramous" you ignoramus...
Mocabee, who is your second choice?
McCain is hoping it is not him.
