Federal Hill Association says Ward rejected mayoral debate

A press release posted today on the Federal Hill Association's website:

It is with much regret that the Bristol Federal Hill Association announces the cancellation of the Pre-Primary Mayoral Debate scheduled for Thursday, August 30th at the Bristol City Hall Council Chambers.
Today, August 9, 2007, petitioning Mayoral Candidate Art Ward declined the Association’s invitation to participate in a pre-primary debate with Democratic Party endorsed Mayoral Candidate Ellen Zoppo-Sassu.
The Bristol Federal Hill Association will be holding debates for candidates for Mayor and City Council positions after the September 11th Democratic Mayoral Primary. As soon as the debates are scheduled official announcements will be published.

The group's website is www.bristolfederalhill.org.

Lets see if we get this right: Tim Gamache is pres. of the Federal Hill Assoc. He is one of Zoppo's yes men, and I am sure Zoppo gave Tim the script of how the night should go. And Zoppo lives on Federal Hill. If I were Ward I would be very leary of this set up.

I don't blame Ward for declining The Mayoral Debate...There goes that "Scripting Again"~shhh don't say anything, so nothing leaks out.

She must really think that she is the "queen", thank goodness someone can see through her - good move Art.

Tim Gamache is in the Art Ward camp, not with Ellen. You know, the veteran thing and all.

What is Art Ward afraid of? If he is qualified and capable of being mayor, he should be able to answer any question thrown at him, regardless of the source.

The Ward supporters don't even know who each other are. This is too funny. Keep it up, boys...you're Ellen's secret weapon.

If he does not want to debate her that is his right. After all we have been hearing about his open government and how he represents the best intrest of the citizens. Why should we hear it before hand. We don't have that right. Be a man and stand up to her and tell us all what you will do and how you will do it. Let us see them side by side. Not one ducking and taking cheep shots.

BREAKING NEWS:

leading up to Ellen Zoppo's conspiracy with key members of the DTC and other groups against Art Ward, it has been learned that they have also schemed to hide the truth about the Kennedy assassination, the resting place of Jimmy Hoffa, the location of WMD in Iraq, the true plot behind 9/11, and the real identity of Jack Pumpkinhead.

There is no need for a pre debate debate. When the time comes, it can be done properly.

Debates only bring out the die hard supporters of each camp. The people that are voting don't watch it in person or on TV. It's a waste of time and money. I don't blame Art for turning down a debate at this point. It's rediculous. If Ellen wants to give speeches full of silly analogies to her friends on the Hill, she can do that all she wants.

Why does the debate have to be tied into Federal Hill or the Fed Hill Association? This is the problem. Everything is always about Federal Hill and basically "only" about Federal Hill. Mrs Zoppo lives on Fed Hill, works on Fed Hill and is a great lobbyist for Fed Hill, but what about the rest of the city?

I won't attempt to speak for Tim Gamache, President of the Federal Hill Association - however I do know that his choice to aupport Art Ward was definately not "the whole veteran thing" as you so eliquently put it.

His decision wasn't immediate.

There will be a debate but on neutral ground - not the set up Zoppo is trying to launch. As for Tim Gamache - he has been Ellen's man for years how do you think he got to be Pres. of the Federal Hill Assoc. and he lives on Cypress St? To bad, because Tim's close association with Zoppo has tainted his reputation.
I can't wait for the REAL debate!

But then Ellen won't be able to control that debate! She can control the Federal Hill Assoc. debate and the DTC debate. Sad that Zoppo is already trying to make Ward look bad by setting him up and then turning around and crying he turned them down!!
How stupid does Zoppo think we are?

What is Ellen afraid of? All she knows is how to "Script" and WHY should Art Ward subject himself to a Debate that is Only on her level and no one else's.

You mean to tell me that because Tim Gamache being President of Federal Hill and that he lives on Cypress St. that he is indebted to Ellen for the rest of his Life and cannot make his own decisions on what IS BEST FOR HIM and For BRISTOL,CT? Congratulations Tim Gamache for seeing through her and also wanting to Better Bristol All Around~NOT JUST FEDERAL HILL.If you need/want to move I'm sure you could find something else that is Non-Ellen Affiliated!

Art told folks that he will not do any debates unless HE can pick the moderator and see all questions ahead of time! That tells me he either doesn't know what's going on in his own City after all these years on the Council, or he's afraid that Ellen will show him up with her ability to come up with clear and concise answers to any question that is put to her. Ellen is willing to debate anywhere, anytime, in open forum, with any moderator, AND without seeing the questions ahead of time. Art should too. One of the 3 people running for Mayor will be responsible for the entire City of Bristol soon. I, for one, want to know where they all stand on certain issues and how well they would represent the City. We need someone in office who is well spoken, can think on their feet, and who can communicate with everyone from CEO's of companies to those with little education. Ellen can definitely do that.

I would strongly suggest that the previous poster supply authentic evidence that Arty Ward made those demands for a debate otherwise the credibility of this blog site will be tarnished beyound repair.

Excuse Me! I do not blame Art Ward for wanting to view the questions beforehand and picking his Own Moderator~I wouldn't trust Ellen as far as I could throw her! He's just watching his own back...Ellen is watching everyone else's back through pictures and driving by. Next time I'll Smile and Wave!

You have to be kidding! Ellen not see the questions before The Debate~That Is A Joke! She Has to KNOW, SEE, TELL and CONTROL EVERYTHING~Anynone who believes she wouldn't see the questions beforehand doesn't know Ellen very well...Give it Time.

if the answers to the questions were to be "leaked" to the candidates, would ellen share them with art?
