Colapietro fires back at family institute

State Sen. Tom Colapietro, a Bristol Democrat, said that attacking him for allegedly being "anti-family" is ridiculous.
"I think they're stooping to a new low," said Colapietro, who is seeking reelection to the 31st District seat he's held since 1992.
The Family Institute of Connecticut's political action committee, which accused the senator of voting against families,  is "anti-gay, anti-abortion," Colapietro said.
In fact, he said, "They're anti-human being."
Colapietro, who is locked in a tight race with Republican challenger Jason Welch, said he has a family so the attack doesn't even make sense.
He said his critics are waging "a win-at-all-costs type of campaign" that depends on badmouthing him.
But the senator said he's not worried.
"The people will decide" next week, he said.

  1. I can't believe this man is a senator. How embarrassing! No wonder he doesn't want to debate Mr. Welch!

  3. So calling Jason an Android and calling into question his character is ok by you, Tom. You should read the stuff your Union Buddies are sending out about Welch and all republicans. Bye, bye Tommy....

  5. The candidacy and the fact that Colapietro is a Senator is a black eye to our democratic (small "d') system.

  6. The FIC is a bunch of deranged lunatic hypocrites hellbent on telling everybody else how they should live. Being pro-gay rights is pro-family - they want there to be more of them.

I know that whoever the FIC endorses, I vote the other way.

  7. How the message of hate continues to be spread by Tom Colapietro....

    "can't stomach gay marriage"

    "anti-gay"

WOW...in this day and age it is pretty clear Tom does belong in the State Senate....

Hatred is NOT a family value!

  16. Can't wait for Jason Welch to win this election for so many reasons, but not having to read Tommie's #1 Fan's mangled, childish comments is a pretty good one too!

  17. 7:32 - So you support Tom's homophobic remarks? Very interesting.

Doesn't matter when they were said, fact of the matter is they are relevant to this article and Tom's response. He claims the Family Institute is anti-gay, anti-women etc.. Yet he is the one who has, on public record, made homophobic, disgusting remarks about the gay community.

Rough around the edges doesn't begin to describe Tom. Vote for Jason Welch!

  18. Maybe Tom Colapietro losing will put an end to 50% of the mindless drivel that gets dispensed on the blogs. I am praying that the voters in Bristol retire this guy. Bristol has had enough of him and his low class representation. Oh did I say representation? Not sure if he ever did that actually. Voting with the party and against Bristol and struggling families - like hiding a surcharge in our electric bill. Nice!

Enjoy retirement Tom. I'd like to say that it's been nice, except it hasn't been.
