Vote Republican, says GOP chair

Letter from city Republican Chair T.J. Barnes:

As we enter the final days of the 2009 election season, I would like to ask the people of Bristol to vote for the Republican slate on November 3rd. The Bristol Republican Party put forward a slate of new voices and ideas that are a change from the past and will begin to truly help Bristol move forward. In these trying times, taxpayers are being asked to support more and more at every level of government. Whether it is bailing out a large bank or supporting another poorly run government program the money all comes from the same place: your wallet. Too many times we as taxpayers need to put up more money in the name of the common good, but at some point we reach the breaking point. Today, taxpayers are at that breaking point and are demanding their government work more efficiently with their money. It all starts at the local level. So, if you want to push back and demand more from all levels of your government, vote for the Republican slate on November 3rd and send a message that we want real change in Bristol, Hartford, and in Washington.

Sincerely,

Thomas O. Barnes Jr
Chairman of Bristol Republican

  1. More efficiently run? Our local yokel republicans can't even get their collective act together long enough to find a viable candidate, and when they finally do get some poor schlep to step up to the plate, they leave em swinging in the wind. They have ZERO (zip, nada, no...) credibility.

BTW, about that change thing...sometimes it's only for the worse.

Where have you been the past 18 months?

  3. 3:07 poster...

This from a guy who's party has Parker!

Oh wait, I forgot....Bristol is half way between Boston and NY!

  4. 3:38 PM poster,

Scarola makes Parker look like a rocket scientist...LMFAO!!

  5. Tom,

    Have you read Scarola's letter??

Is he one of your Republicans?

  6. I love how the Democrats come on here and just blast a Republican anytime they say something. It also amazes me that the Republicans never bring up the last 20 years of Democratic control in this city and what that has given us in return. I can't really think of one thing. Can any of you?

  7. Hey Barne$:

Get a better mayoral candidate next time. Cross your fingers this year. You, Schaffrick and the gang may have blown your one chance in ten to get a Republican elected in the 3rd council district. What a shame.

  8. What would TJ know about anybody having a difficult time in an economic downturn????

Too bad TJ and Mocabee and Schaffricklet their egos get in the way of party success

  9. Vote for Democrats again, and you again have only yourself to blame for the state we're in.

  11. The Republicans have a great Mayoral candidate in Mary Alford!

    Right on!
The republicans failed to keep Wards feet to the fire!
There were/are many issues that they did not keep track of.
But most of all , IT WAS THE ECONOMY, STUPID and the republican candidates did not even bring that up duringthe campaign.
But then, since they are not involved, they don't know what is going on.

    Mary who?

    Mary, where is she?

Mary, what does she stand for?

Maybe because the ONLY time we hear from the R's is when they whine and complain about how THEY could have done it better, faster, cheaper... They never actually DO anything themselves, but they sure do love to bitch about what our real leaders are doing. Ya gotta love it!

    ReplyDelete
  15. 7:08 AM, I'm sure Mary stands for truth, justice and the American way (oh, and whatever else they tell her to stand for)! ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  16. No, the reason the Republicans can do nothing more than "whine" about doing things better, faster and cheaper is because this community is too dumb to vote Republican in the first place. You get the government you vote for, and the people continue to vote for stooges. How do you make change when you are outnumbered 4-2 on the Council, with a Democratic mayor and a bunch of his cronies on the boards?!?

The community wasn't too dumb to vote republican 4 years ago, when they had a candidate to vote for.

Swept all 9 districts if I remember correctly.

  18. "this community is too dumb to vote Republican in the first place."

...or maybe we're smart enough to realize that if the Republicans can't provide us with strong, solid, experienced leadership, we need to find our leaders elsewhere.

  19. what a surprising message from the gop chair, never would have expected something like this - where the hell have you been this whole election cycle?

  20. Tom, your so called candidates are breaking rules left and right with sign locations that are on city and state property and they are half the time not even getting permission to put them where they are. they claim they are going to uphold the laws in bristol but it's clear they can't even uphold the laws before the election! i'm a republican and i'm not voting republican except for alford because ward is so bad.

  21. 1:14 You are clueless and most certainly NOT a Republican, but thanks for playing. Go back to the garbage truck for your nap.

Schafrick and Mocabee told him to shape up or they will replace him.

  23. 2:13's response is a prime example of why our local republicans aren't taken seriously. In lieu of an intelligent response, they go "mad dog" on us with insults and name calling...too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Do you honestly think anybody on this blog is taken seriously? COME ON!!!!

  25. T.J. The Republican ? Ha

  26. Bristol would be smart to elect some Republicans and balance their government.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 7:38 AM,

Balance would be great and we probably would elect some if there were any of them worth voting for. The R's just can't seem to provide us any solid candidates.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 9:06 - Your comment is so far off base. The Republicans have put forth at least 4 solid council candidates this election year, with a strong woman for Mayor and another strong woman for Treasurer. You can't tell me the Democratic offering is that much better, if at all.

    ReplyDelete
  29. "Republicans have put forth at least 4 solid council candidates this election year"

Gosh, I'm sorry. It would appear that we have different understanding of the word "solid." I see solid as someone who has spent time attending city council meetings, working with other community leaders, learning the ins and outs of city government, spending time getting to know the community...while your idea of "solid" appears to be picking a name out of a hat...Yes, I can tell you that the Democrats are offering better than that!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just like Kate Matthews Allen Marko, Kevin Fuller, and Terry Parker. What city board have they served on or been involved in? What have they been doing, and just being on the DTC does not count. Hold your standard to both sides of the aisle if you feel you must have this standard.....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Where has Elliot Nelson been? Don't really hear much from him now do we!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Kate Matthews: very active in the FVA

Fuller: started Wades World and has done a fantastic job

    ReplyDelete
  33. OK Barns, you've done your one thing this year, now go back to your other world.

  34. 3:46 wrote "I see solid as someone who has spent time attending city council meetings, working with other community leaders, learning the ins and outs of city government, spending time getting to know the community"

Then you say Matthews has been active in FVA and Fuller started Wades World, what about the city government part of your own defenition? There is alot more in the 3rd district than FVA!

While starting Wades World is commentable, how does that make him more "solid" when I see no government experience and that was a key aspect of your own defenition of a solid candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 8:45, At least Fuller and the others have been active in the community. They are earning respect and learning the ins and outs of city government. The city council is a good place to start. The Republican candidate I'm most concerned about lacking a solid background their mayoral candidate, Ken Johns...er...John Gil...nope, I mean, Mary Alford. Come on now. process of elmination is NOT the way to choose a viable candidate!

    ReplyDelete
  36. And how many meetings has Scarola been too, or DC, or Mills.

And, does the other 1st district candidate even exist?

Barnes is the one making the claim, but then does HE even attend meetings other than Retirement?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Looks to me like Mr. Barnes wants to own Bristol. You ain't your Dad T.J.
