GOP mayoral contender might exist

I've now heard from several prominent Republicans that the party appears to have a mayoral candidate with a solid resume but not much name recognition. I'll keep my ear to the ground and see if a name gets whispered somewhere.

  1. Did he/she have a vision last night or did the leadership approach him/her?

  2. I am interested in a 2 candidate election where people have to talk issues and defend their positions. Artie got a pass on that last time when he refused to debate during the primary and the stuff during the campaign was lame. Anything that supports having a choice among two or more candidates is good for our town.

  3. Guess Stortz isn't going to be begged to run like he thought!

  7. Frankly, I think Stortz was a darn good mayor.

Certainly better than Couture, and clearly better than Ward.

And HE could have won tbis election.

  9. As I follow the political discussion on a few of these threads, it became obvious that the Republican leadership WAS and IS afraid of Stortz.
The man bowed out gracefully two years ago, and to my knowledge has not shown any interest in running, yet they claim he is waiting to be "begged".
I have seen no sign of that, so I have to wonder where they are coming from.
But it does point out quite clearly why the Republican Party is in trouble, locally and elsewhere.

Bill, you don't need these people or that aggravation!

  10. 8:58 If you aren't in the know on why they aren't supporting Stortz or why he has been a pain in the rear, don't comment.

  12. No one approached him. He decided to run on his own. He does have a vision. This guy will certainly suprise you. He is just what Bristol needs.

As a Republican, an active one, and one nvolved in the city, I have a pretty good idea as to why the R's wouldn't support Stortz, and it isn't a noble one.

Sad for the city, sad for the Republicans.

  14. I find that following, or trying to, the various threads on this site very interesting. Mayor Ward is being criticized by his Republican enemies for taking care of his friends. At the same time, former mayor Stortz is being criticized, seemingly by the same people, (apparently Republicans), for not taking care of his friends (apparently them). I say, you can’t have it both ways.
