I'll have more on this later, but the deal that Mayor Art Ward and the City Council generally agreed to support -- hiring two former city attorneys to replace two lawyers who are resigning a month's end -- appears to be dead.
Dean Kilbourne, a former city attorney, told Ward he can't take the part-time position because of family responsibilities, according to the mayor.
Ward still wants to pursue hiring another former city attorney, Edward Krawiecki, Jr, to take a part-time assistant city attorney slot. He said the city needs the continuity and experience Krawiecki offers.
But it's not clear the Democratic-controlled council will back Krawiecki without Kilbourne taking the top attorney post.
While officials scramble to work something out, Ward said he plans to advertise the city attorney's job to see who might be interested in the $33,00-a-year position.
I'd take it, except what I know about the law mostly is that reading legal decisions can put any sane person to sleep in no time. And, of course, I'm not an attorney, though I came frighteningly close to being one once upon a time.

ReplyDeleteWard couldn't stand Krawicki - why the turn around? Wasn't it Ward who kept bringing up the issue of a state fine Krawicki got slapped with? Now he wants to hire him? Moving Bristol Backwards if you ask me.

ReplyDeleteI wonder who Ward is talking to if he can't get his own party to vote for something he wants. We all know Cockayne and Ward don't see eye to eye much. Not even Nicastro will vote his way. Perhaps Ward shouldn't have burned so many bridges!

ReplyDeleteMr. Kilbourne is one of my attorney's, and I don't want to share him with the entire City of Bristol again.
Besides, Attorney Kilbourne is very selective when it comes to who he's willing to work with. Think about it, would any of you willingly work with Mayor Back-Ward for a few thousand dollars? Maybe for a few million!

I truly wish the Mayor and Council could have worked things out with Dale Clift. I know Dale and am sure he gave 200%! He is a gentleman, cares about Bristol and is a consummate lawyer.
ReplyDeletePossibly if that third position had been filled all along, the work load would have been fairer and we wouldn't be in this position. Remember it is only a part time job - how many hours per week did they get from Dale? I am sure more than what was thought of for the $33k!

ReplyDeleteEd gets municipal benefits already through his wife Sharon, who is city treasurer. That's probably why Kilbourne won't take the job, Ed has a sweeter deal.

Hmmmm...let's see. Ward couldn't work with the last council(because several were lap dogs who answered to a higher authority). Ward couldn't work with Stortz (who knew Ward was a force to be reckoned with)...and WRONG...Ward and the council DID come to an agreement, but Kilbourne bowed out. Hopefully, more candidates for the position will surface and the most qualified candidates will be hired...moving Bristol for-WARD.
The real Ward is coming out - real loser. He burns people, maske promises he can't keep, runs off at the mouth and he expects the same people to back him?

Thank God that Kilbourne quit before he started. Hire Krawiecki, he's one attorney that Steve won't have to worry about getting "frighteningly close" to.
ReplyDeleteWard is on the right track. You have to realize that all the Council members have their own agendas, and when they disagree with the Mayor there might be some hard feelings. Also, Zoppo may be pulling strings from wherever she landed. But do you really want the Mayor and Council to agree on everything all the time, like they do in Terryville? They have an ongoing audit (should have been finished last fall) with $410,000 missing and no one says a word. Be thankful that here our elected officials dare to disagree.
The only one Ward got along with was Rosenthal: two losers!

ReplyDeleteThe agreement wasn't brought up by Ward. It was brought to him by the council. At that time Ward did what he alway's does, and took the idea as his own. Perhaps if he as a true leader he would have had things in the works instead of running with the council ideas.
Perfect example......Block suggested 3% cut in pay. Ward votes NO. However 2 months later says the council and mayor must take a 5% cut. Sounds like true leadership. Lets see what others do, then say it was mine.
