Following the opening ceremony, the road will open from the end of the existing expressway in Plainville to Emmett Street.
The section from Emmett Street to Riverside Avenue won’t open until next spring, though Pine Street will remain available for use during construction.
Among the officials who are expected to attend is Gov. Jodi Rell, according to Mayor Art Ward.

Perfect. Funnel additional traffic to an unfinished section of highway. Pine street west of Emmett is a nightmare already, the Mitchell Street intersection hasn't even been started yet (neither has the intersection of 72 and 229 at Pierces bridge). Broad Street at 229 is still months from being done. This time next year we will be talking about a final completion date. I always thought that sometimes an idea is so bad that they actually decide not to implement. Wrong again.
ReplyDeleteThis is a huge mistake. This is like pouring a gallon of water into a one quart bowl. Local people are going to have a hard enough time negotiating this unfinished mess, but anyone from out of town trying to get across Bristol are going to be funneled to this bottleneck, adding to the confusion and congestion. When you see the list of politicians Artie is bringing to the ribbon cutting you will know what this is all about.
