State Sen. Tom Colapietro, a Bristol Democrat, said that he's willing to debate Republican challenger Jason Welch as long as a fair, bipartisan sponsor can be found and ground rules worked out.
He said that he's upset that Welch has insinuated he is running a negative campaign -- pointing to a commercial where mud is slung at Welch signs -- when he insists he hasn't so much as mentioned Welch's name.
“He insinuated that I am throwing mud. That’s mudslinging. That’s dirty campaigning. I have nothing to do with mudslinging,” Colapietro said.
He said he's not convinced Welch has his own agenda.
"I think he’s an android. I think they made him,” Colapietro said.
Colapietro said that he doesn't know anything about the source of an anonymous YouTube video lashing Welch. But, he said, he agrees with it 100 percent. He also said it was fair and not an example of mudslinging.

Tom is having trouble with the video that is stating what everybody is thinking. There is too much mudslinging on tv right now from both sides of the aisle and that Jason is not going to do any mudsling. Too bad Tom has not made the same pledge.

Tom is afraid to debate because then he will have to explain his record just like Jason will have to state his plan. No name calling just the facts. Tom by his actions can't do that. His says he does not mud sling yet calls him an Android and in his statement agrees with the Youtube posting which mud slings ???? Go figure. My hope is that Tom does debate Jason. My guess is that Tom will find a way to not debate Jason because he is rattled by him and not able to explain his record of not helping Bristol.

We need and deserve a debate to hear exactly what each individual has to offer. Any of the current incumbents need to explain what they will do differently. I think the legislature dropped the ball this past year with the budget process. They did not address the issues and the budget was basically smoke and mirrors. ReplyDeleteYou're trying to distract from the issue. This is not about Enfield vs. Bristol. This is about following the law vs. breaking the law. Tommy and his buddy Caroll Hughes decided to break the law in 2008. Now they need to pay the price for their crime.
This is the difference between Bristol and Waterbury. The people of Waterbury love Rowland even though he's a crook. In Bristol people have a stronger moral compass. If you break the law, you need to go to jail.
If Tom breaks the law, he should serve time. He shouldn't get a free pass because he's from Bristol or because he's a State Senator. Aren't those exactly the kind of special privileges that Richard Nixon tried to get?

The website lists the results of how every complaint filed is resolved. If you look at the 2010 complaints, none of them deal with Colapietro. I believe the complaint about Colapietro's campaign contributions is 2010-047. It isn't up yet.
Steve, you might want to file an FOI request with the State Elections Enforcement Commission for a copy of all complaints pending against Colapietro's former / current campaign committee. I know for a fact that they are investigating multiple complaints. Don't you think the public deserves to know about them.
