The city is trying to work out a deal that would have the downtown McDonald’s move to a spot next door to Dunkin’ Donuts on North Main Street.City councilors have given tentative backing to a land swap that would shift the fast food restaurant to a new spot on the 17-acre former mall site.
The move may be made before the rest of the property is redeveloped as part of a bid by the Long Island-based Renaissance Downtowns to remake the city center.
Edward Krawiecki, Jr, the city attorney, said the new eatery will likely be “more upscale” than the existing McDonald’s.
Krawiecki said its owner is eyeing 80 seats, including some outdoors, and an atmosphere akin to the McCafe-style that some of the chain’s establishments have adopted.

That's quite a plus I suppose. The McD's in downtown hasn't been renovated in my entire lifetime, I'm 27, and it has been the same inside that whole time it seems.

ReplyDeleteMcDonalds as upscale? I love Bristol, so classy. Putting McDonalds right across from City Hall? That is a horrible idea but at least that will put the tax dodging cheapskate street vendors out of business.
ReplyDeleteFolks, There's a reality here you have to recognize: McDonald's own its property in the middle of the mall site. It's not going to go away unless the city makes a deal. So moving it to a better spot -- for the city, at least - is worth something.

ReplyDeleteand to add to 3:25pm, in order for McDonalds to move, they will have to design to meet the new downtown regulations which calls for streetfront, two stories, at least a hidden drivethru (if granted by the landuse boards)all so it is integrated into the overall redesigned downtown project. 3:25 is correct, if you don't get McDonalds out of their current site, you have no project, it is as simple as that. I think this is actually a good first step, small that it may be.

ReplyDeleteWhen Nicastro was mayor, Bristol could have purchased the mall for about a million bucks but Frank said Bristol wasn't in the real estate business. Ironically, he supported the 5.5 million scheme.
You are right, the scheme is a joke but you are blaming the wrong comedian.

There are also SIX council people, count 'em, SIX and it requires a majority vote which hasn't even come before the council. So to sit there and blame three people, you Ward lackey, and two who aren't even on the council anymore on an issue that hasn't even come before the council shows just how ignorant and frightened you really are of those three. ReplyDeleteEllen Zoppo and her alles were the ones who first brought forth the proposal to buy the mall. Minor was a big proponent of the proposal, the project and the tax-payer expenditures. I do not believe Ward was as big a proponent as the two aforementioned council members. Perhaps McCauley was busy talking about ridiculous things like "The fire hydrant snow removal ordiance" to be too involved. But after making the statement "like it or not the city is in the real estate business" it's hard for one not to see his support for the purchase of the mall.

Hey dimwit!! Ward was a huge advocate of buying the mall when he was the deputy mayor to Couture and Kostas. They wanted to do all of it without public involvement.
