Whit Betts jumps into race; others may join him

There are “quite a few” candidates interested in seeking the job that state Rep. Bill Hamzy has held since 1994, city GOP leader TJ Barnes said this morning.
“You’d be amazed how many people are interested,” Barnes said. One of them, former Bristol city Councilor Whit Betts, declared his intention today to run. He is Barnes' uncle.
“Obviously the goal is to get the best potential candidate,” Barnes said.
Republicans have a convention slated for Tuesday in Plymouth to pick a candidate.

  4. Sounds like Hamzy gave the Republicans only one week to find a candidate.

Or was it know by a select few?

  6. Too bad the GOP can't get some one other than Wet Betts.

It's time for the Barne$' to take a back seat again.

  8. Bill, thank you for your service.

Unfortunately, all we have left now is a egomaniac (Nicastro), union hack who is discounted after 19 years in the Senate (Colapietro), who has no position of authority, leadership or respect and what's his name who is a (persona non gratis), Wright. And we wonder why Bristol does not get it's due in Hartford, yup, keep electing those Democrats, Bristol.

  9. Too many Republicans are in it for ego, not to win or to serve the people.

  10. Whit-less Betts!? What's that old farmer, 75-80 years old? Just another Barnes boytoy!
Those Barnes want so badly to get into politics but they keep pushing their relatives into these races instead...Hum, maybe because they have no nerve themselves to run? lol.

  11. You few Republicans have to keep knocking the Dems in Hartford to make yourselves feel better. Go ahead you sore losers! And keep hoping the Barnes money will buy you an elected position just like that Linda McWestler is trying to buy her elected position. lol.

  12. I'd rather have a "union hack" in Hartford then a snob elitist who’s the front man for the Barnes money. lol. Those elitists of Bristol treat the common working man like dirt; always have, always will.

    I like neither.

  14. Nice show of support for Whit from Mayor Ward.

Guess that will preclude any dem from running.

What did he get in return?

  15. Wonder what Welch thinks of all of this?

Yes, the Union Hack has done so much good over the past 19 years. His former employer is no longer here in Bristol. How many union jobs were in Connecticut when he took office? How many are there now?

You disparage Whit Betts because he married a Barnes. Good God man, is your problem greed or envy. You obviously have never met Whit. He is an honorable, generous and honest man. Many of your Democratic leaders have echoed these very thoughts, i.e. the Mayor of Bristol and Democrats in Terryville.

You need to take off your blinders and realize that people like Mr. Betts are part of the solution, not the problem.

If you feel a need to blame someone, try the unions, look what the Greek unions are doing to their country. Portugal is next, then Ireland, then Spain, then England and guess who is next? Greed? You bet and it's the unions who lead the greed.

They served their purpose and now they are purposely served to garner votes for Democrats.

  19. Hey ya biased dingbat liar! That place closed 2 years after he left. It must have really hurt you sponges when you didn't have their money to rip off!

  20. The reason Bristol is in bad shape is because of yoou useless whiners.

  21. 7:54 Why don't you go there and straighten them out. You wouldn't last a day !

  22. 4:25 - that's the difference between you and someone who respects a person's right to run for office - respect.
ward didn't say that he was voting for Betts, he said that Betts was an upstanding guy; would you rather have a "sleeze-bag" run for office?
If so, you will qualify to be a contender, just step up and bring your name public.

You convinced me. But is Whit electable and will he sustain?

  26. Re: 8:35 AM

Please indicate in my previous post whereby I espoused greed, envy, dumbness and hatemongering.

I simply stated that Senator Colapietro has been in Hartford for almost 20 years, that is a fact, he holds no leadership position, that is a fact, he is not Chairman of any major Senate Committee, and that is a fact. I believe he is Chairman of a low level sub-committee.

He is anti-business who happens to provide jobs for his constituents and that is a fact. He has voted for every tax increase that the Democrats have proposed and that is a fact. He has voted for legislation that has hurt Bristol and then did not realize exactly what it did or how it hurt this community and then recanted his position, but the vote stood and that is a fact.

For all the times that he has been in lock step with his party, one would think that at the very least, he would have been rewarded with a position of power, responsibility and clout in the State Senate. That is not the case and that is a fact.

But 8:35, don't let the facts get in your way for a proper discussion of the facts. Name calling is a much better avenue for posters who have no facts.

  27. 12:30 Other than your normal lies where are your real facts? You poor thing just don't know what your talking about. Look at the real record maybe you'll learn something. Even if he didn't do anything he does more than you, But check the record someday and look at what he's really done. Hurt too much?

  31. Re: 9:18

My goodness, you just don't get it. He is in Hartford, he has done nothing in 19 years. I am not in Hartford, I don't have to do anything. What don't you get? The more you post, the more you make my point.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 11:47 - good point, you don't have to do anything so stop blabbing and go back to hibernating someplace.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I know Whit and he is a stand up guy that would do anything for any body even you heartless people talking smack about him, you obviously do not know him and that is too bad. My vote is for Whit.
    Kind regards,
    Non-Barnes family member!

Actually the Barneses today are inheritors of wealth and a business created by others long ago and tended to by people who know what they're doing which "the Barneses" really don't.

But I am thankful that they don't up-root Assoc. Spring and move to Mexico or a Right to Work state like most manufacturers are doing these days. Certainly Whit and TJ have nothing to do with employing the few hundred people they do in CT anyway. But god bless them and every one else here too.
