Wright says no more borrowing

State Rep. Chris Wright, a Bristol Democrat, joined a handful of fiscally conservative Democratic lawmakers recently to demand that legislative leaders deal realistically with the state's budget meltdown.
In a letter that Wright signed, the legislators say the state can't afford to borrow more to cover budget gaps. Read it for yourself here.

  1. WANT MORE MONEY FOR THE BUDGET???

** Audit Medicaid recipients property and spending habits for abuse of funds and hiding assets.

** Drug test Medicaid recipients and if they come up positive for illegal drugs, remove their benefits.

** Force able bodied Medicaid recipients to either go through education to qualify for a job or show evidence of job applications weekly.

** Audit Medicaid recipients for abuse of the emergency medical system. IE: Calling an ambulance when you have a soar throat.

** Remove Medicaid recipients if they are treated for overdose of an illegal substance.

30% of our weekly paychecks are takenn for taxes. We need to make a violent change in the system. Medicaid is the most expensive State program. The State needs to stop enabling these people and break the cycle.

  2. Assist those who are trying and working but stop providing(medicaid, section 8 housing, etc.) for those who make no effort to work.
Stop the expanded meal choices for school kids on the lunch program.Do not eliminate lunch assistance just limit expensive choices.
The state needs to reward those who make the effort and stop enabling those who make no effort!!

I love liberal Democrats like you. You lose elections for your people even when they have an automatic advantage. All you have to do is merely be yourself and the votes evaporate. The same goes for "Odin". Keep up the good work.

The fact is that Wright has been a proponent of the welfare state and big government solutions to everything while in office and way before that. Chris Wright and his party of neo-socialists are destroyers of American values and properity for Connecticut.

  10. Love it when a liberal, tax spending democrate trys to be fiscally conservative. In this case the guy is a socialist to begin with. But Chrissy boy, thanks from helping the conservative cause.

The others who signed your worthless pledge face the same plight. Donovan and Williams must be fit to be tied...they can count on a at least losing the 12 of you in November.

  11. Annon West Conn Student - This is 10:24 and you completely misinterpreted my posting. The Medicaid system is very flawed because they hand it out easily without followup to the status of the person receiving it. There are some people that need to be on Medicaid and there are others that don't need to be on it and abuse the program. I witness this on a daily basis. Oh...and I'm a democrat.

How can a medicaid recipient afford to have 3 large flat screen TV's, Wii, Playstation, more bling than Mr. T, $150 sneakers and a Lexus?

Why should Medicaid be given to a heroine addict that refuses detox? How many times does the emergency system have to save him/her by dropping Narcan in them just so they can go back out and score another hit?

Why can't the State pay for a Medicaid recipient that is young enough and able bodied to obtain an education that enables them to get a job and become self sufficient? That would be the best thing they could do for that person, and the rest of us. It's called "Welfare to Work" and many States have been very successful with these programs. Give them self independence and self worth.

Audit the medicaid recipients every quarter and force them to report "gifts" they recieve or purchases they make that are in excess of their beneifts.

Not once did I mention color, nationality or creed. CT is known as the Welfare State and people move here from all over the globe because we are known to hand Medicaid out easily with no follow-up. Medicaid recipients that are working have a subsidized Medicaid benefit to suit their needs. That is different than a full free ride with no intention or effort to get a job.

Where does it end? If you had a job you would understand that those of us that work can't afford to have Medicaid abused anymore.

  12. West conn Student": Your quote was"

"Medicaid is an insurance coverage and generally people who call the emergency room for a sore throat are one's that don't have insurance (i.e. not medicaid recipients).

You are incorrect. Medicaid is insurance and financial benefit paid for by the State. They hand the hospital a grey card that pays for their ride in the ambulance and the hospital treatment at the expense of the State. These are the people that call an ambulance for a sore throat, swollen toe, ETOH (alcohol abuse) and other non-emergency situations that they could go to a clinic or regular doctor for.

The first poster was absolutely correct. It's about ending the free ride at the expense of the tax payers.

  13. Wright amazes me. He works at St. Francis ER and sees the Medicaid abuse first hand but chooses to ignore it.

  16. West Conn ---

    Medicaid, Saga, etc.....

in the context of this debate there is no difference because they are paid for by who???

    Our Tax Dollars.

I have a friend who lost her insurance benefits because the company she works for dropped the carrier due to the expense. It was too expensive for her to carry on her own. After 20+ years of paying into the system the State denied her benefits from this system you are defending.

Medicaid is an entitlement program. Entitlements are out of control and full of fraud. Just because you and your momma used medicaid to pay for your braces (and everything else you had wrong with you because you lived on junk-food in your tenement) doesn't mean it's a good program.

  18. If the state of Ct. is projecting such big budget deficits can Bristol still expect them to fund the majority of the 2 new schools we are trying to build. Does Bristol have an alternate plan if the state decides to back out of the agreement like they are trying to do with the Rockwell Park funding. We need the new schools but we also need assurance that the state will make good on thier promise to pay 70% of the cost.

  19. West Conn.
10:24 said everything most hard working people feel but are reluctant to say. The entitlement programs are excessive and reward people for sucking off the system and you know it.
    Well stated 10:24!!
