"He's been here for us," Ward said, "and now we need Dan Malloy as governor of the state of Connecticut."
Ward said Malloy posted a tremendous record during his 14 years as the mayor Stamford, where he added jobs, cut crime and held taxes in check.
"We're going to need someone who has experienced the ground floor" in the governor's seat during the next term, Ward said, because he has the roots to tackle the state's obvious financial woes.
Ward is in his second term as mayor. He served on the City Council for 14 years before moving up the political ladder.

ReplyDeleteDan Malloy is a great guy and a tremendous speaker. However, as a Democrat, I am concerned that he has been basically running for the last four years, since he lost to DeStefano, and still his polling numbers are only about 10 percent. Ned Lamont has many of the same views and positions but is around 40%. While it still is incredibly early, I am concerned that Dan doesn't have much name recognition it seems. Probably comes from being the former mayor of Stamford. To much of CT, Stamford might just as well be another borough of New York City.
ReplyDeleteI would also be concerned that the likely Republican nominee, Tom Foley, has both massive personal wealth and access to many big time Republican donors. Can Malloy compete against him financially? An example of Foley's resources is the fact that he's already running commercials and its only February!

But as far as Malloy goes, I just feel he's not a raving liberal without any common sense like say, Senate President Don Williams (who still at this point in his career does not understand the free-market system).
Malloy may have similar positions as gubernatorial candidate Lamont but is he an insane wind-bag like Senatorial candidate Ned Lamont was/is? Malloy just doesn't scare me like the rest of the public labor pawn Democrat hacks do.
And I'm glad you're afraid of Tom Foley. Maybe he IS the best choice for the GOP side although he lives in Greenwich, which is contrary to "6:25 PM's" conventional wisdom (that's right next to Stamford by the way).

ReplyDeleteobviously doesn't matter where artie stands on mandates because nobody in hartford is listening to any forum, such as local government, other than what they are told to do by inefficient state legislative leaders.

They still need to take their elected responsibility to make crucial decisions about state spending CUTS which affect our citizens and our cities.
