Veteran Board of Finance member Ron Messier said Tuesday he asked the mayor not to reappoint him to the powerful nine-member panel.
Messier, who has served for a decade, said he is bogged down at work and anxious to spend his spare time with his family.
Messier said he toyed with seeking another term, but realized it would be better to let someone new take his seat.
Mayor Art Ward could nominate a replacement for Messier within weeks.

Ward would be well advised to appoint someone who understands the CITY finaces and is not afraid to stand up and question things.

ReplyDeleteIf you had attended any budget meetings or finance board meetings - the two women you call seat warmers take active roles on the board by asking questions and expecting accountability.
We need someone who will hit the ground running.
ReplyDeleteThe next year or two will be extremely critical and we do not have time for someone who hasn't even been to a meeting or been involved in local finance.
The 3-4 names that come to mind that would be quickly and meaningfully productive would not be acceptable to Ward.
ReplyDeleteRead between the lines: he got rid of Soucy and Messier because they did question things. The two gentlemen are just that, too classy to raise a firestorm over being removed.
But we do need someone that will raise legitimate questions and take the time to know what is going on.

3:48pm - I have attended more meetings and board meetings then you I am sure. I can make a comment on this because I have seen them in action, or lack there of. They were pawns in Stortz political game and that is all.

No one was opposed to Ragaini - they just preferred Marko, and an incumbent always gets re-nominated (unless, of course, the mayor has a personal vendetta against the guy for doing something unforgivable like supporting Ellen two years ago). "Bullet voting" is hardball politics. It's considered bad form and is unheard of in Bristol. It was the Ward machine who called that play, and it failed because they never had enough votes (even with the ones they stole from McCauley).

ReplyDeleteNo matter how bad, courtesy warrants a response. But that is clearly missing.
Also, any idea to save taxpayers dollars can't be all bad, from street lights to trash collection to things I notice on my street that the mayor would not likely to see.
But a class act would make sure I got a response.
typical aninymous accusation, have you ever followed up on your suggestions to see if they were even received or is it easier to just accuse the mayor of no response? take some of the time that you waste on this blog and call his office - it's easy with these new fangled contraptions that they call telly-phones.

ReplyDeleteI have been to Council meetings, have been to BOF meetings, have been to Joint Board meetings, and have occaisionally spoke at them.
There is NO reason why I should have to resend any letter. But it is clear that the nature of my experience indicates to me why the city is so poorly run!
