Bristol's claim to fame? A pig

Mayor Art Ward gave Daisy 2 -- Farmer Paul Minor's second "reading pig" -- a key to the city this week.
The mayor said that Daisy, who died last month at the age of 14, and Daisy 2 have become the most famous pigs in the world through their travels to "Pig Out on Reading."
He said he gave the pig a key to city because of the magnitude of its achievements.
Minor said he intends to keep heading out across the country with the potbellied pig to promote reading.
"We still hope to be traveling for many more years," he said.
Daisy 2, lying on a blanket in a large baby carriage, didn't seem to care much.
He just grunted loudly.

  4. Here's that photo op that was talked about earlier.

You had me confused, Steve, at first I thought the story was about the Mayor. Based, of course, on the headline only. But then I realized the story was more about farmer Minor's pig. LMGDAO!

  5. Thank God for Art Ward.

  6. Hey Great Headline, if the headline had been about an ass...we would have thought it was about you! ROTFLMGDAO!!!!

  7. 8:18 - we need to be grateful that great headline isn't a part of a herd.

  8. Methinks the mayor or his handlers need to do a better job picking his publicity gigs. Its starting to be hard to take him seriously.

But that is what he is all about!

Well, aren't you the clever little girl on the playground.

Remember what your Daddy always said:
You'll never amount to nothing. How prophetic!

  12. Great Headline,

Confused? That was YOUR dad...(and he was right). ;0)

    Hmmmmm....

How odd is that. I didn't even know my Dad knew you. I bet the chances of my Dad saying such a thing to you is a million to one. But, if you say so, I guess you're right.

At least everyone is in agreement on this one!

  14. Great headline,

Wow, you really are confused...(early Alzheimer's perhaps?)... Your dad was talking about YOU...and everyone is in agreement!

  15. Well, if you say so May 14, 2009 11:07 AM, then it must be true. :o)

I'm going to get back to my occupational therapy now. We Alzheimer's sufferers need to keep ourselves busy.

Besides, you should get back to your Barbie dolls. They need their Mommy.

  16. Great Headlines, although I find bantering back and forth with you to be mildly amusing, I've got to stop because it's unfair of me to continue in a battle of wits with a totally unarmed opponent. Good luck with that therapy though! ;0)

  19. Pigs, boxing gloves at the Mall - what next? Mayor Ward is a disgrace.

  20. Maybe Stortz wasn't so bad after all.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Actually, I think Stortz did a pretty good job.
Remember, he got along better with the democrat council than Ward is.

  23. "Pigs, boxing gloves at the Mall - what next? Mayor Ward is a disgrace."

Since when is making the city more appealing to potential investors or encouraging young children to read disgraceful???

    ReplyDelete
  24. Its the way the Mayor is acting - like some little kid with gimmicks. Give us a break.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 7:47 - It's called a sense of humor. Why don't you give us all a break, remove that stick from your butt and try it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. 7:47 - if ward was using gimmicks, you would have been gagged by now.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wouldn't it have made more sense to give Paul Minor the keys to the city instead of his pig? After all, he was the brains behind the whole concept of "Farmer Minor and Daisy the Pig" promoting reading to children. Unbelivable. Ward is certainly not the brightest crayon in the box.

  28. To CC .....good !

  29. If all the Republicans on here were like the Miners Bristol would be better off, but unfortunately they're not. And I am a democrat.

Actually I am gagging, and Ward is making me sick.

"Unbelivable. Ward is certainly not the brightest crayon in the box."

Uh, that would be "unbelievable" ... and the old adage "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" comes to mind.

BTW, Daisy is the one who appeals to the kids, not Mr. Minor...This isn't exactly high tea with the queen here anyway, but it's pretty obvious that you don't get it...seems that maybe YOU aren't the brightest crayon in the box either!
    LMAO! ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  32. 10:29, I agree! You really are pretty sick.

    ReplyDelete
  33. To 12:40 - What are you the typo patrol? Grow up and get a real job proofreading at the newspaper - seems like it's the only thing you really know. I totally agree that Paul Minor should have gotten the key to the city instead of Daisy. Figures a dumb ass (Democrat) would give the keys to the city to a pig. What is this Animal Farm?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Now that Daisy is, well, pushing up daisies, it's gratifying to know that Farmer Minor has his face back in the public trough, rooting around for more cash for his "pig out on reading" gravy train. OINK!!!
