The city is eyeing $11.6 million worth of municipal projects in the coming fiscal year that range from the completion of the Rockwell Park renovations to the reconstruction of Marsh Road.
The projects would be paid for by a combination of bonding, state aid and cash.
Though the Rockwell Park project is the biggest ticket item, there are other major projects slated for funding as well.
Among them is the $2.5 million Main Street streetscape project that has been designed but needs $2.3 million more for its completion. Half of the money is supposed to come from the federal government, the other half from bonding.
Other costly items on the list include a $2.2 million upgrade to the Beals Senior-Community Center’s heating and air conditioning system, $1.4 million to reconstruct another portion of Mix Street and $500,000 for improvements to Allentown Road.
The project list, which has been approved by a key committee, is likely to be included in the city budget that’s tentatively slated for adoption on June 4.
It includes $75,000 for security cameras at Rockwell Park, $50,000 to begin plans to upgrade Kern Park, and $650,000 for Marsh Road improvements.
The project tally includes that final $300,000 for a $1.3 million project to tie city buildings together with a fiber optic network and another $300,000 to improve traffic signals.
There is no money included in the five-year plan for the proposed sports complex on the former Roberts property on Chippens.
The pedestrian bridge between Riverside Avenue and the Memorial Boulevard monuments is currently slated for completion during the fiscal year that starts in July 2010.

11.6M of projects? I thought the City was short $1.6M in the budget? And they want to squeeze the little guy out of his pay? What a joke! Guess Artie is playing his politics and not making the hard choices.

ReplyDeleteAre you surprised?
But who will remember in November?
Someone needs to pay their debts to their big campaign doners.
ReplyDeleteBusiness as usual, even in the 2nd "great depression".
Lets see .Layoff city employees and keep the private contractors busy, but no to layoffs for city employees. ART MAKE UP MY MIND
ReplyDelete"There is no money included in the five-year plan for the proposed sports complex on the former Roberts property on Chippens."
ReplyDeleteHow is Rockwell Park a better idea than this? What a shame......
Let's see...we can't balance the budget and we can't pay employees raises that we promised but we can dole out 11.6 million dollars to Carpenter, D'Amatao, et. al. The City's priorities are waaaaaay out of whack.
ReplyDelete12:24
ReplyDeleteMore appropriately, Ward's Priorities are out of whack!!!!
Why don't you whiners take a day off. Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteSince 50% of our fine City workers spend most of their day doing nothing and take 3 hour lunch breaks, the town should keep them busy and have them do the construction on these projects instead of paying private contractors. We have most of the necessary equipment and skilled labor. Use it!
ReplyDeleteWhere is the so called fiscal conservative Cockayne? He must be busy union bashing and not paying attention to the excessive spending in Bristol. Cockayne should start working for all taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteThe mayor and city council must stop the excessive spending.
"Since 50% of our fine City workers spend most of their day doing nothing and take 3 hour lunch"
ReplyDeleteYou know that for a fact do you? What a putz!
moving back-WARD........
ReplyDeleteContinuing city projects is moving Bristol backward?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know whats going happening on Minor rd. (the dirt road part) They are clearing out all the tree's and it looks like they are widing the path. Whats up with that dirt road anyways?????
ReplyDeleteActually 8:49- I tend to agree with the statement.
ReplyDeleteI was on Stevens St today and saw a City worker sleeping/snoozing in the backhoe!! Literally laying sideways inside the cab with his head up against the window and eyes closed. I saw one guy working. There were two other trucks and no other workers in sight. Maybe they were taking a cat nap too?? Makes you wonder.
Its fine if they are tired and want to relax, but they need to do it on THEIR time, not ours.
Where the hell are the bosses?
I also see various trucks at Dunkin Donuts for WAY longer than an hour and sometimes hiding out in the woods on chippens hill and the water dept land near stafford ave. Doesn't anyone drive around checking on them or question what the heck they do with their entire day? It doesn't seem right. Maybe the guy was just taking a 15 min break, who knows. But our City workers need to be more aware of the appearance they tend to create by certain actions or lack thereof. People are watching and we do notice.
Where is Mayor Ward on all of this?
ReplyDeleteYOU PEOPLE VOTED FOR THIS GROUP SUFFER AND SUFFER SOME MORE.
ReplyDeleteWE PEOPLE ARE VERY SATISFIED AND ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO VOTING FOR THIS GROUP AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteWill you remember in November?
ReplyDelete5:45, Why don't you try reading the article? It tells you EXACTLY where Ward is on all of this.
ReplyDelete6:39 is a Republican...but totally correct. We voted them in and if we are smart we will vote them out too.

ReplyDeleteThe way I see it is that Artie is clearly on both sides of this issue.
"The way I see it"
ReplyDeleteEver think that maybe the way you see it is wrong?
I have certified 20-20 vision.
ReplyDelete12:48,
