Hawk attacks Bristol girl at Fenway Park

Let's hope this doesn't turn her into a Yankees fan...

More Boston Globe pictures

According to the Globe, the girl is a Memorial Boulevard School 8th grader who toured the hallowed ballpark as part of a school trip to Boston. She apparently got a cut on her right eyebrow from the hawk's talons, but is doing fine.
I'd suggest she ask for season tickets. :)

  1. There are a lot of hawks circling Bristol too! Many hawks can be found circling in groups over Birch Street. What does this mean? Is it the Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" realized? Don't go outdoors. Don't leave the house. Watch the skies for attack birds. Those kids should never go anywhere because they could be in danger!

  2. Beware of an angry mother Hawk.

  3. Just don't get too close to the nests. This is an aberration resulting from the design of a sports stadium where people can venture near areas high enough for nesting hawks.

  6. Who's watching and protecting our children on these field trips?

    This is outrageous!

  7. How, exactly, was someone supposed to stop a hawk from swooping down and clawing this girl's head before flying away? It might be a risky venture for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to go to Fenway, but not to bring some kids there.

  8. Steve,

With a wuss like you, I wouldn't expect any protection from even a flea.

    LOL

I would have batted the offending bird away from the darling little lady...because I, unlike you am heroic.

I'm sorry to tell you this, but I AM TOTALLY SERIOUS.

So much for your "faith in the human race". Now will you please move to a deserted island?

  13. Thank God for Art Ward! Too bad he wasn't there because he would have protected her!

  14. This should appease anon 2:53:
I suggest for any out door field trip we clear the surrounding area of any and all animals and only bring teachers that can communicate with animals just in case one does decide to attack. Next we lay down bubble wrap everywhere the kids go(wouldn't want them to fall and scrape a knee). Get off your pedestal man this was a freak accident that no one(including the bird which was acting on its basic survival instinct) can be blamed for it.

  15. Weird - I lived in Boston for 7 years (college and post-college), and never saw a hawk in my time there.

Luckily she wasn't seriously injured, although I can't imagine the scare she got when the hawk came towards her.

Yeah the teachers are Sooooo qualified. I mean you're suppoosed to protecting these kids. He didn't see the friggin' bird swooping around? What happens when these fools take our kids into a dangerous city like New York.

"Hey your kid got mugged". "Well what did you want me to do"...said the screw-oo-l teacher.

  18. "...a dangerous city like New York..." What are you, living in the 1970s? These days, much of NYC is a perfectly safe place to visit; thousands of tourists from all over the world do it every single day without incident. 4:14 PM guy, you need to get a life (and occasionally spend some time outside of Bristol).

  21. 2:53 No ome seems to be communicating with you. You seem to be a animal that doesn't communicate with humans.

I think everybody at fenway saw the bird flying around and no one thought it was a danger to anybody including the staff at Fenway. So I ask what was the teacher supposed to do?
