According to the Globe, the girl is a Memorial Boulevard School 8th grader who toured the hallowed ballpark as part of a school trip to Boston. She apparently got a cut on her right eyebrow from the hawk's talons, but is doing fine.
I'd suggest she ask for season tickets. :)

There are a lot of hawks circling Bristol too! Many hawks can be found circling in groups over Birch Street. What does this mean? Is it the Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" realized? Don't go outdoors. Don't leave the house. Watch the skies for attack birds. Those kids should never go anywhere because they could be in danger!

ReplyDeleteJust don't get too close to the nests. This is an aberration resulting from the design of a sports stadium where people can venture near areas high enough for nesting hawks.

How, exactly, was someone supposed to stop a hawk from swooping down and clawing this girl's head before flying away? It might be a risky venture for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays to go to Fenway, but not to bring some kids there.

ReplyDeleteI suggest for any out door field trip we clear the surrounding area of any and all animals and only bring teachers that can communicate with animals just in case one does decide to attack. Next we lay down bubble wrap everywhere the kids go(wouldn't want them to fall and scrape a knee). Get off your pedestal man this was a freak accident that no one(including the bird which was acting on its basic survival instinct) can be blamed for it.
Weird - I lived in Boston for 7 years (college and post-college), and never saw a hawk in my time there.

These days, much of NYC is a perfectly safe place to visit; thousands of tourists from all over the world do it every single day without incident. 4:14 PM guy, you need to get a life (and occasionally spend some time outside of Bristol).
