The pension funds have been fully funded for years, yet the city budgeted far more than they were required to. Don't ask me to explain why they would continue to overtax us like this, but the numbers don't lie. The problem is that those trust funds are described in collective bargaining agreements, so that money has to be used according to the trust language. There is a way to access those funds for retiree health care, but not without changing the trusts, which would mean changing contract language.
The cost savings would be so huge, I cant believe the city hasn't come up with a plan. The idea , posted here before about the state approving a transfer of funds, or some such nonsense is either a fabrication or a misinterpretation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-90118801489570565002008-05-17T21:47:00.000-04:002008-05-17T21:47:00.000-04:00Ask Klocko: I don't have access to the chart you a...Ask Klocko: I don't have access to the chart you are talking about.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-37431745728157815902008-05-17T16:04:00.000-04:002008-05-17T16:04:00.000-04:00Look at the chart. Anyone interested in how this citys' finances have been mismanaged can look up the chart Steve Collins posted a couple of weeks ago that showed how much the city put into the pension funds over the years. Even in recent years , when these pensions were overfunded, the comptroller and the finance board allowed up to ten times as much as what was contractually obligated to flow into these funds. The city is only required, by contract , to match employee contributions, yet for years, dumped tax surpluses into the pension funds. This was simply hiding the fact that we have been overtaxed for a long time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-84013049464311535582008-05-16T16:06:00.000-04:002008-05-16T16:06:00.000-04:00Make some changes to the BOF!!!Make some changes to the BOF!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-24216329441934327842008-05-16T11:20:00.000-04:002008-05-16T11:20:00.000-04:00How many are cuts, how many are just putting off t...How many are cuts, how many are just putting off the required?

He and his BOF do not appear to be very incisive in thsi process.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-20816117174777290052008-05-16T08:34:00.000-04:002008-05-16T08:34:00.000-04:00We asked for cuts, he's making em.We asked for cuts, he's making em.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-43730866974595327092008-05-16T08:14:00.000-04:002008-05-16T08:14:00.000-04:00chop chop chop....chop chop chop....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8811616037332448221.post-53865848257483369442008-05-16T07:46:00.000-04:002008-05-16T07:46:00.000-04:00Your'e a heckuva manger Mr. Ward. What will be next...Your'e a heckuva manger Mr. Ward.

What will be next?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
