State GOP chair: Colapietro is "a liar"

State Republican Party leader Chris Healy just issued this press release:
Colapietro Is All Double-Talk on Death Penalty
State Sen. Thomas Colapietro, D-Bristol, is trying to fool voters by talking tough on the state death penalty even though he voted to eliminate it this year, according to Republican State Party Chairman Chris Healy Thursday.
“Colapietro is a liar on a life and death issue and now he has been caught red-handed,” said Healy. “He knows the people of Bristol and Plainville understand the death penalty shouldn’t be abolished, but as usual, Colapietro words don’t match his record.”
Healy said Colapietro supported abolishing the death penalty on May 22nd. The bill was approved by the Democratic Legislature and vetoed by Gov. M. Jodi Rell. Neither chamber attempted to override the veto. Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Dan Malloy supports repealing the death penalty while Republican Tom Foley is for such punishment.
“Electing Dan Malloy and Tom Colapietro means no death penalty for those who deserve it,” said Healy. “No one will be safe.”
Colapietro in comments to the Bristol Press claimed the death penalty was “a joke,” and “that it merely made defense lawyers rich.”
“Aside from being a bully, Tom Colapietro has shown himself truly unbalanced,” said Healy. “Colapietro votes to abolish the death penalty, claims he is a tough guy but has never challenged the current laws that allow death row inmates to make endless appeals.”
Colapietro claims his support for being for “three strikes, “ sentencing but it’s not backed up with either statements or legislative proposals to expedite the imposition of the death penalty.
“Colapietro has long shot his mouth off, blaming others for his problems and those of the world,” said Healy. “After 18 years, Tom Colapietro has delivered nothing for victims of violent crimes or supported making violent criminals pay the ultimate price.”

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_many_innocent_people_have_died_from_the_death_penalty

Innocent people have and do end up on death row. There is not mulligan for an execution.

Headline should have read "State GOP is a liar" Besides being a three time loser in court he of all people call Colapietro a liar. That's funny. Isnt he the same GOP head that tried to get another person that ran a dirty campaign before elected ? Isn't he a friend of TJ do no wrong Barne$$$$$$?

The real liars are on here . The GOP wacko's on here consistantly say things that aren't true about Colapietro. They are the real liars, Perhaps Healy should stop playing politics with a tragedy and do his job. Shame !

The days of sending an innocent person to the electric chair are gone thanks to DNA evidence. I personally believe in the death penalty, but every person has a right to their opinion and to bully and belittle them for their opinion is narrowminded and just plain wrong. It's a wonder anyone wants to run for public office.

The republicans are gross... this is a shallow attempt to seize some of the publicity of the Petit trials and turn the public's fear and sadness about what happened to the Petits against Tom. The death penalty does not prevent crime...as clearly shown by the tragedy of the Petit family murders.

The voters should be smarter than this. Tom is correct about the death penalty. It is unbelievably costly to execute someone in this State, and unfortunately, the "endless appeals" are Constitutionally guaranteed to death row inmates.

The only thing that can be done to change this scenario is to eliminate the death penalty, and make sure that the laws state that there is life with no possibility of parole or early release for anyone convicted of committing certain heinous crimes.

If you want to prevent violent crimes, the best way to do that is to identify and rehabilitate people who exhibit violent tendenceies in their youth, to increase penalties for parole violations, and keep a closer watch on parolees. A three strikes law for violent offenders is also a good idea... although it must be pointed out that the Petit murderers did not have a history of violent crime prior to the tragedy.

People of the 31st. dist. please don't let tiny tom PULL HIS HAIR OVER YOUR EYES ONCE AGAIN!!!!

WE NEED JASON WELCH

This crap from the man who is a drunk driver?! Who'd believe him, the supposed chairman of the Republican Party?

Anonymous said...

Tom needs to keep his mouth closed and be thought a fool rather than open it and prove it.

The words Tom spoke in regard to the Death Penalty are his. If folks misinterpreted them then he did a poor job of stating what he was trying to say so he had to issue a correction.

Tom is always asking for the Golden Rule but never follows it.

It is time for a change which is why I am voting for Jason Welch.

Bristol deserves better and in November we can thank Tom for his service and move on.

lol. Sounds like Healy is just "shooting off HIS mouth".

To Steve the owner of this site,
Democracy allows everyone the freedom to know your accuser and never again see the terror of the Hitler regime and their faceless accusers. Then why do you allow the faceless, anonymous, unsubstantiated accusations on this site to go on and on? To me, and I’m sure the others who have viewed this site and left in disgust, it’s an affront to Democracy.

The only liars on here is Healy and his Repyblican friends on here. Lets offer proof of who the liars are. Afraid ?

In the early days of our Republic, newspaper pieces were almost always unsigned or signed with fake names. Many of the pieces were vicious, unfair attacks.
Like it or not, this sort of crap is built into the fabric of America.
Were it up to me, I would require everyone use their real name when commenting. But there's no way to enforce that on the internet.
I also think it's amazingly hypocritical to offer these sorts of gripes while happily cloaking themselves in anonymity.

You say all that and yet you don't put your name?

That says it all.

Anonymous said...

Ben - I don't understand your position. You commented:

"I need a good reason not to vote for him. Like he been doing the freaken job for 18 years!!!"

I guess if you are satisfied with his performance, then you will vote for him. And that would also mean you approve of how the state budget was handled. Mr. Colapietro had his colleagues have refused to make the hard decisions. Spending cuts have to made otherwise we will all pay more in taxes. I don't know about you, but I'm paying enough taxes as it is. Just to vote someone in who's been doing the job for 18 years is not sufficent. The times have changed and things have to be done differently. I'm not convinced Mr. Colapietro is willing to change.

The little man with no hair is a slug.

Healy, you are being used by the local people and don't even realize it!

Anonymous said...

2:43 When are you people ever going to change? You have been calling him names and badmouthing him for years so wise guy when are YOU going to change?

Anonymous said...

Healy should talk ! Is this what you mean by calling the kettle black >

You missed the point. I am not calling Mr. Colapietro names. I simply stated that he cannot be doing the same thing he had done over the years. I am not saying what he did was good or bad. I said becasuse of the financial issues facing the state, it will require hard choices to be made. I just want to know what Mr. Colapietro plans to do differently.

Mr. Healey, I don't see you attempting to change the appeal process on these death row cases. You must not have a problem with allowing death row inmates to appeal ad infinitum. One fellow has been on death row since 1988! I daresay your stance on the topic is typical for a politician. All attacks and no solutions! Mr.

Colapietro has said the system is broken. That is really the truth! You have offered no solutions to the problem yet you have the gall to attack a man who has said it like it is. I would rather vote for someone who will stand by what they say than someone who will criticize and not offer a solution to this very big problem.

The unfortunate thing is even if the defendants in the Petit case are sent to death row, they will continue to appeal and appeal and our legislators will do nothing to change the laws. The sad thing is that you have lots of legislators with differing viewpoints but they are not listening to what their constituents want. If they would just do that, then a lot more would get done at the state capitol.

Let's look at how the law can be changed to give justice to the victims and their families by shortening the appeal process. period.

Actually you're "gross". I see your post as a reflection of one who may incite ultra-liberal violence, so I recommend putting you behind bars before you do something anti-social.

What you are actually is a big-government liberal. You have no place in our American society. You belong in a european style socialist country. Your comments are precisely what is wrong with this country and those comments sound like something out of Orwell's 1984. But because of your initial comment "gross" I assume you're an adolescent and will someday grow up.

Actually the conservative cowards like you start the riots then hide behind this blog. If you went away everyone would be better off.

October 2, 2010 6:23 PM:

If we "went away" you'd be living in a one room apartment, eating bread and water, taking public transportation to your slave labor job (which you have no idea the like of which is) and waiting until you had to hold your guts in with your hands before the state allocated a hernia operation.

Or worse you'd simply be living in a province of the USSR...although perhaps that's what you think you want.

Anonymous said...

9:41 What purpose do you serve by namecalling? I still think we would all be better off if you went away ! I'm still trying to figure out what purpose you serve with your trash!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Welch. He's young, intelligent, articulate and very down to earth. What a change! I'm looking forward to voting for him.

Anonymous said...

9:42 you would vote for any one but Tom. Admit it. Welch may be all those things so you would want any one in there even if he just came to Bristol and only voted once. So much for you caring about anything. I'm still voting for Tom "He's one of us"

Anonymous said...

See how nice these Republicans are ? LMAO But I can't blame them for hiding behind this blog . There like this anyway.

the state gop boss has a lot of nerve sticking his 2 cents in and calling colapietro a "liar" - that's our priviledge.

1:49: Well, you're right, you and Tom are the same kind of people. It's pretty clear that you're cut from the same old cloth.

Time for some new material -- Jason Welch! He's really one of us.

Anonymous said...

Go Welch!

Anonymous said...

Tom is not one of us. He has never had to worry about his job or tell his family he has lost a job. He has not a clue how the real world works. So I am offended that he actually thinks he is one of us.

Anonymous said...

Go Colapietro

Anonymous said...

10:41 AM, Yes, Colapietro going is EXACTLY what we need. Enough is enough. We need Jason Welch!

Anonymous said...

Right you wackos we don't need someone who listens to you guys. Vote Tom Colapietro

Anonymous said...

10:16 He lost more jobs even before you were born. He does know what the real world is . Not like you that was born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Or didn't you have any body to rip off?
Vote Tom Colapietro and pay no attention to these liars.

Anonymous said...

Tom Colapietro is not, and never has been, one of me. I am not happy with his voting record, and I don't like the way he treats his constituents.

Of all the candidates who have run against Colapietro, I find Jason
Welch to be the most promising. His concern for the community and thoughtful ideas to improve the state's economy have impressed me.

Please join me in voting for Jason Welch. Together we can make a change.
